Morning fencers. Great to read about princess good news, I'm rubbish with names and hope Pops is feeling more positive. I haven't read right back so sorry if I've missed anyone off.
Good news here today - I have found a stockist of the fig rolls I like the best. Will buy about 10 packets methinks.
Today the weather is lovely and I aim to potter, dog walk and garden.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions, whilst I am able and I really shouldn't I'm going to Darlington to book some music concerts and plays for later in the year. I know you still have to face things but...I'm actually thinking of popping into my church this afternoon(they've got some kind of event(talk)on, If I dislike it I've not lost out and if I get comfort so be it.
I do feel a little better with the sun shining too. I may look up doing a hobby."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I'm still around here.
Plus points - I think I'm learning how to get things done quickly. There was a fault in my house recently (should NOT have happened - as its connected to recent work I've had done here:mad:) - but I had someone out within hours and its sorted now.
Just sent in email report about a problem in the vicinity of my property and expected the email not to be read until Tuesday and I've had a reply back within minutes stating it will be dealt with on Tuesday (surprised to find that some people seem to work every hour under the sun.....).
:T Well...credit where credit is due and you cant ask for faster than a request in one minute and minutes later you are told when it will be done:D and thanked for bringing it to their attention.
Now hoping the weather clears up - missed my walk I was hoping for yesterday care of summat-that-had-to-be-dealt-with and hoping to get one in today.
More exploring of my new area next week and then the last bit of major work to be done on my house for the time being (ie because I've run out of money now and have to wait to save up some more before work can re-commence:(). Got the bottle of champagne in already to celebrate last urgent bit of work being done soon and the fact I'm getting within spitting distance of that darn revised State Pension Age of mine now and will have the rest of my income back at last soon....whew....am counting down in weeks now till the Government stops "nicking it before I get it".0 -
Morning all,
Yes, there is something about the sorts of hobbies where you can sit and create something. I always seem to get into them because I want the end product and then realize I enjoy the process of making. My OH has lots of hobbies himself but none where he makes something and I sometimes wish he'd find one. They're great for stress or calming the mind.
We had a nice family meal with OH family yesterday and then came home in the late afternoon. We sat in the garden to get the last of the sun with the radio on and I did some knitting. I have almost finished the back piece of the cardigan I'm making. I made mistake a few rows back and had to take some out so it stalled for a bit but it is progressing nicely again.
A bit of cleaning today, I still need to do the menu plan and then the shopping. Not sure I'll have enough time to get the sewing out, haul the ironing board upstairs etc. If not I'll probably knit for a bit, but I'm starting to be ready for that dress to be finished.0 -
Sheila we have not seen you in while, I hope you are OK
Candlelightx0 -
Candlelight I was thinking about Sheila too - have a vague idea she mentioned going on holiday, but I may be imagining that as my memory's not as good as it was.
Popperwell Booking some concerts to look forward to sounds like a splendid idea to me
FPK My OH had a craze for Lego for a while, and there were little models all over the place  It seems to have eased off now though. He likes puzzles such as Sudoku, but doesn't currently do anything craft-y.
Jazee Another fan of fig rolls here
I've just put yesterday's washing back on the line as none of it got dry yesterday! Have to remember to bring it in before the rain arrives later.0 -
Morning fencers. 6 packs of fig rolls purchased yesterday and one packet already gone I am ashamed to say. So breakfast this morning was fruit salad and yoghurt, and I'm justing having a cuppa and an apple.
It was raining first thing and I thought I might be stuck in all day (rain is the only weather I don't 'do') but having hopefully worked off some of the fig rolls in the gym and having a nice bath, its clearing up, so I think next on the list will be a long dog walk.
Have some planting to do in the greenhouse today, so will do that even if it does rain again.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Maybe I'll say thanks for small mercies, Ivyleaf. He didn't even like lego as a child (unfathomable to me..) I can only imagine the way all of the 'bits' find their way around the house.
Jazee I'm hoping it continues to be clear here-it was pouring this morning but I've got a second wash in the machine and its not falling from the sky anymore.0 -

I had to get up
I hope Sheila is missing for good reasons too. A holiday sounds good but these days many are too expensive(even for me)unless I can continue to economise so money can be redirected and the benefits I am on are stopped quite quickly if I try to leave these shores so I'll have to stay within the UK and perhaps stick mainly to odd days/weekends away.
Even many concerts etc... are getting too expensive to attend and not helped when there is bus problems for getting home. I have thought of staying in a hotel for safety and to save the cost of a taxi home but again often there are no rooms available or again the room is more expensive than the taxi home.
I keep hearing of the 24/7 society perhaps near a city but not around here. I see many social venues dead before 10pm. But that could be because people have to work the next day, can't afford to go out, lack of public transport so many reasons.
The shows I have booked are a mixed variety...two mystery plays(The Ghost Train and a Sherlock Holmes)a recreation of a concert in New York's Carnegie Hall between Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.
The Judy Garland Story(with one of her daughters in the cast Lorna Luft)Last Night Of The Proms, Syd Lawrence Big Band and an All Star 60's night starring Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, The Troggs(without Reg Presley)Badfinger, The Pacemakers(without Gerry Marsden)
The Tommy Cooper Show(A recreation of one of his shows)but also his life. A RAF Band concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of The Battle of Britain.
Yesterday I attended a Pentecostal sung Eucharist at Durham Cathedral and I shook hands with the Bishop of Jarrow. I wanted to take Communion but wasn't quite up to that but I was there in spirit. The power of the Cathedral organ and the choir echoing around the place was very impressive.
But out of all the days they do not have a bus service to the Cathedral, it doesn't run on a Sunday, the rest of the week it does but even that stops by around 4pm(I think)and it really is quite a steep walk to the Cathedral. I was really tired by the time I made it into the cathedral.
I hope today is a good one for all...I didn't win the bingo last night but won a bottle of wine but I suspect the raffle tickets I purchased meant I'd paid for the prize in reality:p
I have a little bingo session this afternoon with the oldies(that's a laugh)I'm almost one myself:(and just to fill in time I am thinking of getting on a bus in around an hour and having a ride around for a couple of hours and then the bus will drop me off near to the bingo.
I really should not spend any money, if I am not careful I won't have any to spend "A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
