No - I want to know because it's HMRC who should be bothered not the council. And I do tell them everything!!!! Is your work NMW?

Do your ebay stuff in your spare time...

Can you or your mum claim carers/attendance allowance ?

OP - as you are caring for your Mum, does she get AA?

If so, you could claim CA.

According to HB, what you *earn* now doesn't either!

Nope but it means I can afford to live in my home town near my mum and have a car which was my point in the first place. Look I don't mean to be rude but this has literally nothing to do with my original post. Yes, you can all jump on the bandwagon of "I'm obviously a benefit scrounger who doesn't want to work" but you don't know me, my situation, my life etc etc.... I'm sorry if I don't want a "real" job on NMW where I can't actually afford to rent a home! - Greedy I know!!

No, i get paid far more than NMW. It doesnt mean that i'm loaded though. I work the hours i do so i can afford to pay my mortgage and living costs. I never want to have to rely on any free money, from anyone. It can so easily be taken away. I work full time hours specifically for that reason, yes it would be lovely to work part time and for it to be topped up with WTC and CTC but at least i know my money is my own and won't be stopped by whoever happens to be in charge of the country at the time.

I still don't understand why you are enraged by the councils questions. It's obviously a legitimate question. HMRC don't pay HB, councils do.

Oh and I'm older than you also! No excuse...

And again, you comparing your situation is not helpful. You haven't lived my life, had my illnesses, qualifications, jobs, experiences, single/married, parents etc etc...it all makes a difference

Why not get a job and do the ebay on the side...in your spare time?

I work for a large company, have to commute and take home £880 per month. I pay £550 rent and council tax. I am not entitled to wtc or HB but I do get single person council tax reduction. My earnings aren't enough to live on and so I work evenings and weekends on the phones.

I know a couple who have been self employed for years, "working" 40 hours a week but not really making more than £20 a week so living off full hb and tax credits. Lots of people do this and this is why people get angry.

OP why don't you look for a job and do your ebaying on weekends and evenings?? It would mean having a regular pay check from your employer and a nice amount from your ebaying to cover extras.

This is what I do. I am only a couple of years younger than you.

I am not enraged by the council's questions, I am worried HB will be stopped. Now, if I could get a well paid job I would get one but as I have already stated on many of the posts above the area I live in has a poor history of wages with super high rents. I would be lucky to make NMW...and I can't afford to do that. (I should point out that I have only claimed HB for two years and i have worked full time for the majority of my life)
