The OP said she has her own vehicle. Most people travel to work.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Aye.
I travel 22 miles each way to work. My OH travels 14 miles each way.
And we're both low earners and know people that travel further than this.0 -
Thanks for your reples and info. I guess it's the 24 hour for self employed and 16 for employed which puzzles me...why not 16 hours for self employed too?
Ted
Because imo the government have it in for the self employed as per.
Also how on earth is this rule going to effect those claiming the disability element of WTC where the starting point is 16 hours?
Many disabled can't work for 24 thats why they're claiming this element in the first place.“Lord Thomas of Gresford: My Lords, one of the three great universal lies is, “I am from the Government and I am here to help you”. ”0 -

I've sold a lot of stuff on ebay, I didn't class it as a job....but anyway, you have a car so living remotely shouldn't be an issue to get a job.0 -
I sell loads of stuff on ebay, I do it in my spare time after working 50odd hours a week. Roll on the day this loophole is closed for good.0

Maybe i'm wrong, but this thread basically reads to me that you're happy with jogging along as you are and don't want to do anything to bring greater enrichment to your life and get off benefits and want to find a way of stopping the state from pushing you to better the business or yourself or find employment that would allow you to make ends meet without their full financial support.
I am also a 40 year old woman, with an elderly parent who I look after and qualifications which have done absolutely f - all for me! I have worked b***dy hard all my life and have always been single. I have also had paid employment but as I suggested in my post jobs here are scarce and housing prices are ridiculous. So yes, maybe not "pushing myself" is not top of my priority list as I have actually done that very thing for years and got nowhere. Sadly money makes money and I have f all.0 -

No - not being able to travel to a job is not the problem. The entire County I live in has incredibly poor wages and ridiculously high housing costs. So are you suggesting I work for National Minimum Wage and live in a shed perhaps? And of course, the cost of the car would have to come out of that NMW too.0 -

And you're always going to have f all if you don't do something to change your situation. How far away is your closest town/ industrial area? What do your neighbours do for work?0 -

Awww really - and are you a single 40 year old woman who's past her sell by date with useless qualifications and an elderly mother to look after? Nope, didn't think so. Also, if you are buying and selling on ebay to make a profit that's a job - hope you've informed the correct tax authorities.0 -

Wow really? Got any suggestions? That are free? My closest town/industrial area is 12 miles away (oh and that historically has the same issue - poor wages, high cost housing - I know because I worked there for years).
I live in the only private house on a council estate. What do you think they do for a living?0
