Dealers will crucify a trade-in if the EML is on in my experience.
No engine light comes on. No limp mode light either (when it is in limp mode).0 -
I had an overboost and limp mode problem on my old tdi seat. No warning light, just limp mode (cured when turned off and back on) and an overboost code.
It was never diagnosed by a garage but I'm quite certain in was a gunned up turbo which meant the vanes didn't open fully when giving it some beans.
It's absolutely fine now and I think it's all down to some spirited driving and the last two winters being mild.
Have a search for turbo cleaning kits and consider trying that first before spending lots of money on a garage trying this that and the other. Also consider going for a very long drive and get that turbo red hot so it can blow off some of the diesel gunk that will have built up on it. Best way is foot to the floor going up a long hill!0 -

Like the old Army Quartermaster's kit list:
'Pot, chamber, white, officers for the use of.'If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

I have done a lot of short runs over the last twelve months. My daily commute is just five miles. Do you think cleaning could fix it? Surely voltswagon would of suggested this if they thought it would work?0 -
VW would rather replace parts than get their hands dirty on cleaning a used part.
They could spent an hour or two in the parts washer but it may have wear that they deem excessive.
Dont forget they may spend most of their time on shiny new cars that are clean and just need the basics.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
All options are so expensive! There are turbo cleaners on the market that could probably solve your issue and save you a lot of money!0

The turbo could just need cleaning out, over time it will get clogged up with carbon and all sorts of muck. The computers ECU will put the vehicle because of this! Do a simple Google search for a diesel turbo cleaner and that should sort you out.0

Don't these cleaning kits involve tapping a hole in the mmanifold to clean the cartridge?
Also not sure ops will actually be a variable vane will it? Didn't think they used actuators....0 -
Because my car managed to cure its overboost problem over time I didn't resort to a cleaner but when I was driving the car and it had the overboost problem I looked into them and it was definitely a cheaper and easier option that repair/replacement of parts.
I think most VW tdis have variable vane turbos land as far as I'm aware the vanes are opened and closed by an actuator.0 -
I called round a few garages today. Some say they will send the turbo off to clean and some say cleaning will not work (none of the garages have seen the car). It is confusing.0
