Are you a fan of salad spinners?

I use ours a lot in summer - it's certainly much quicker to clean the salad spinner than it is to wash a tea towel after using it to dry leaves. I wash the lettuce in the inner sievy bit and then just transfer the whole basket to the outer spinner. And it's good fun making it go:rotfl:0

It's the one kitchen gadget that gets constant use in our house. I also store the lettuce in it in the fridge - it's fine for a day or two.
We eat lots ( and I mean lots) of lettuce.0 -
Hmmm...have you tried your tumbledrier. I don't have one otherwise I would have checked. (honest!)0

Nope - another thing to clean!
Yes, I'd go with this as well.
We had one, and it did its job admirably well. However, it spent most of its life in the kitchen cupboard. Eventually, we went back to just patting the wet lettuce dry in a clean tea towel, and it is now spending all of its life in the kitchen cupboard. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
My mum used to have one which she used a couple of times but I don't think that she's used it for years, I don't even know where it is! I find that a colander over the sink and getting my hands in there to chuck it about a bit usually does the trick!
Thinking about it she also had a microwaveable crisp maker where you sliced potatoes thinly and then nuked them. She tried it once and they went all soggy and horrible. That was relegated to the back of the cupboard pretty swiftly!**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

This is why I love this site so much. When I was eating my soggy lettuce at lunchtime I was thinking should I get a spinner. Come home, look on here and there's a whole thread. Only on here, I tell you. I'm going to look out at my charity shop and then if I don't use it I can always donate it back.0

I have other gadgets which never get used, but find the salad spinner well worth its cupboard space.
You can wash all your salad in it, spin it dry so there is no water on it (so won't spoil any dressings you may wish to add) and as a result it will stay fresh and crisp in the fridge for a few days (as long as you don't add tomatoes).
I have tried the spinning in a teatowel but found it not as effective and then you have soggy teatowels laying around.0 -

My mum used to use hers to spin her knickers after hand washing when she was on their caravanning holidays!!
Was just checking thru this thread before I posted to make sure there was nothing of this nature, before I posted this bit.
When I lived with my Nan when I was a student, she didn't have a washer, but did have a spin dryer. It was a right faff to get out as she always had loads of stuff piled on top of it. I used to wait until she wasn't watching and then shove my smalls thru so they would dry quicker..... she didn't have central heating either. No electricity involved, just a good vigorous spin!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
