I live in Social Housing and my parents really DID go to Buckingham Palace garden parties!! :o They were missionaries.

But whenever any blatant liars start up, I fee sorry for them more than anything else. Their lives must be terribly empty and lonely if they have to make up such nonsense in order to give them a sense of self-worth. They need bl**dy good memories too, in order to remember which lies they've told to whom.

    I'm guessing they weren't billionaires, though :D

As regards having good memories, I think people like that just have the enviable (?) ability to rapidly think up more lies to cover the existing ones.

People telling fibs, or bigging themselves up is one thing. But what twisted bastard makes up a lie about a close relative dying in a car crash?! Some people have got no morals whatsoever. I'm not surprised you cut yourself off from him.

Indeed; horrible person; can't even call him a man. He also wrote his car off on one of his AWOLS from the barracks on his haste to return before he was noticed. Unfortunately my mum agreed to be his guarantor for it after he badgered her to death. Surprise Suprise he stopped paying it when it got written off and the bailiffs come after her for the payments. She had an almighty break down over it as she was a single parent earning pennies.

She surprisingly still gives him the time of day. I can't stand the moron.

I had a friend, who used to lie about literally everything. From gigs she'd been to, operations she had, and deaths in the family:eek: no idea why she did it, but I had to move on from her, as it got ridiculous:(

  • I have a friend that lives in his own world, we just nod our heads along with him now, he's not going to change after 30 years! He lies how much he's paid, the guy should be a millionaire several times over by now even though our other friend does exactly the same job with him! He also has about 50 holidays a year to exotic places...even though we doubt he has a passport because every time he's supposed to be abroad somebody always sees him out and about in town.

It is rather sad I think and I do pity him as he obviously doesn't like his real life so has to constantly pretend.

I went to school with a girl who told absolute whoppers about everything.

Amused me years later when I discovered she went on to be a police detective!

I went to school with a girl who was allegedly constantly getting pregnant and having miscarriages yet she never missed a day of school.

I have recently come back from a short trip abroad. I told my neighbours where and why before i was going. Does anyone think that i should go around and show them some ticket stubs to prove that i was there?

Not unless you've given people reason to believe that you're a serial liar and a fantasist :rotfl:

Some of the anecdotes on this thread are funny. I think we all know someone a bit like that. Either they exaggerate things or they blatantly tell porkies. Or they lie by omission, they'll tell you the good bits and leave out the bad in order to paint themselves in a good light. As long as they're not lying about anything serious it's all harmless. I don't know how someone can tell lies about someone dying, though

I worked with a guy who constantly made up stories that started out feasible, but blatantly deviated from the truth by the end.

The rest of us then invented this imaginary 'bull sh*t button' that we preteded to hit when we thought he had started lying. So funny.

Really have no idea why he felt the need to lie.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
