Post deliveries, a litte annoyed but what to do?

We have posties who put cards through even if you`re in, last week a packet was forced through letterbox which was too big...broken letterbox!0

I do live in flats, the difference is we have the door on a trade button, so the postie does not need to wait to be let in.
What you are missing is, the rules state access needs to be given if you want to have mail delivered, that access is not on request but free access.
If anyone deserves to be annoyed here it's the postie...first he/she should not have to wait to be given access and you say 30 seconds, even if 30 seconds that's 30 seconds longer than it should be, he could have delivered the mail in that time and I bet it's more like a minute or more, time he rings a bell, waits for an answer, if the person doesn't hear,he rings again, they then come to the phone and open it, just as likely he pushes a bell and no one is in, he waits, rings again, realised no one is in so starts the process on the next bell, hoping they are not on holiday on the toilet or at work, etc etc all something he does not have to do.
You ask what you should do, answer is either put the door on a trade button, so it's open when he calls, or put a letter box on the door.
Sounds you are not asking to much, but if you think about it you are, not to mention fixing this would both be better for him and you, why you would want to jump out of bed every morning for the post beats me.
Actually when I complained before I stated if he couldnt get access to ring my buzzer specifically, and they did to that just once a few days later and asked me, but as we have about 4 or 5 different posties in my area the others seem to not do this, and with me 30 seconds is the maximum as I am so fast if I buzz somone in I am at bottom of stairs and almost at door by the time they are just walking in the door as i am so fast.carlislelass wrote: »We have posties who put cards through even if you`re in, last week a packet was forced through letterbox which was too big...broken letterbox!
If you stay in Carlisle thats no surprise I remember living there 6 years ago and I sent 5 items off in 2 months from the post office in WH Smiths, not one of them arrived despite all of them being recorded, in fact all the tracking numbers showed as not recognised, but everything I sent from the one at the market arrived even in the same 2 month period next day even 2nd class ones.0 -

so your simple request turns out to not be so simple...
not only does he have to wait, you also want him to tell all his work mates that at Number so and so needs ringing for access, and what when you are not in, he's on a day off/sick, you on the toilet, holiday etc, as said 30 seconds waiting for you is long, even if JUST 30 seconds, then what if he has other people on his route that don't allow access. I remember reading in the paper a while ago they expect the postie to walk 4 miles an hour, stopping to gain access I doubt is allowed for, given access is meant to be available, now RM has been sold, I can't see them giving the postie more time.
Not trying to have a go here, just pointing out that you are asking someone that is trying to do a job, go out of their way for you when the better option for all is fix the problem.Putting your problem on to someone else is hardly fair.0 -

Actually it was customer services I told it was ok, and when the most regular postie came round a few days later with a packet he asked if it was ok to ring my buzzer and I said its the best as downstairs guy is deaf and others work. and why oh why is it my problem? This estate has hundreds of flats with identical design to mine, and I have no right to adjust the door on the block or add post boxes, how on earth is that my problem? They must realise that they will have some problems somewhere when every building has an identical design and door entry.
And round my way posties use public transport and theres buses every 5 minutes, it would be better if they didnt have to walk though.
I will also add that in the past I have checked the front door and its open and still no post has arrived and on the next working day the letters had "no access" written on them which is incorrect since I checked multiple times in morning.
At my last property the postie had the key to the door and one before that had code for entry, I used to know when it was a different postie because they didnt have the key so the letters had to go through the front door and thats when I had a lot of identity theft and no birthday or christmas cards in the 3 years I was there(due to drug dealer neighbour)
But most of the time I dont mind as much for letters not arriving more packets that they would have to knock on door anyway, I mean if they dont ring doorbells what happens when they go to someones house with something too big to fit in door? or something recorded?0 -
Either get a timed entry button sorted out, a key for the postman (and pay the fee to RM for this to be carried, and accept the postman won't always have it) or an external locked mailbox(es) or a letter slot in the communal door.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

ringing for a parcel is easy, if not in you get a card, ringing for letters is the issue here.
It's your problem as it's your letters you are not getting.
Fact is, give free access to the postie and you'll get your letters, it's that simple.0 -

No idea how you get the idea about parcels since I already said they do the same thing for parcels/packets in that they walk off and dont live a card(as they cant get into building or dont ring buzzer same for recorded delivery items)0 -

if leaving the door open for the postie is not an option, just crack the window open a little for this guy...[/URL]

I think you need to be adressing the issues with the managing agent for the estate.
When I lived in a flat there were post boxes just outside the main entrance. This seems the best solution, you say it's not your problem to sort this out but why not take some initiative and raise the issue with the powers that be.
Post Persons are under a lot of pressure to get their rounds done, sometimes they have more than one a day. They can't be standing around ringing the buzzers for everyone in your block to deliver letters.
If you think the service is bad then you need to complain to the Royal Mail.0 -
I have a postman who rings and knock, and waits for an answer.
If I'm not in he leaves it at a neighbour who is happy to take in parcels for me, which he knows.
Am I just very lucky?0
