Is it possible to keep house purchase price hidden?

I know if you want to make a point on an internet forum it's best to avoid using language concepts like hypocrisy, contradiction or double standards. The trick is to make the opposing statement vaguely believable, but also stupid enough that it cannot actually be a serious proposition.
Can't really tell if this outrage is because i'm really good at the dark art, or just suck at it.
For clarification, the OP wants to do pretty much what I posted. They may not have used the numbers directly, but that existing data has already been used in some form or another by -
Their seller
The estate agent
The surveyor
Insurance companies
Mortgage lenders
And now they want it to be hidden when they take ownership.
That is a ridiculous and unfair proposition.0 -

Hi,
I have just got up to speed with this thread. I do not HAVE to have the price hidden for any particular reason! However I am not from the UK so I am used to a different house buying system where this information is hidden so it is not an option.
I noticed a house on the street where I live has the property price gone from Zoopla etc. So I asked how is this possible? as given the option I would choose to hide it myself.0 -

Regardless of which one it was, you got a bite. I'm sure you've been around this forum long enough to know that the, er, let's call it "diversity of opinion and ideas" mean it can be impossible to know if any particular poster is acting in humour or just plain [STRIKE]stupid[/STRIKE] ahem misinformed.0 -

They do say that irony is the first casualty on the Internet, but I thought it was obvious in mr ginge's post, which seemed a pretty good one, well justified by him above.0
