A lot of people are therefore idiots.

No you cannot keep a normal house purchase private unless it falls under one of these scenarios................

House Price Index and Price Paid Data exclude: all commercial transactions. By this we mean any transaction that involves a transfer to a corporate body, company or business sales that have not been lodged with Land Registry. sales that were not for full market value. By this we mean, the sale of part of a property, a share of a property or the sale of a property at a discount. Examples include a repossession sale or a transfer between parties on divorce transfers, conveyances, assignments or leases at a premium with nominal rent which are: ‘Right to buy’ sales at a discount subject to a lease subject to an existing mortgage buy to let (where they can be identified by a mortgage deed) to effect the sale of a share in a property by way of a gift under a compulsory purchase order under a court order to Trustees appointed under Deed of appointment where no beneficial interest passes Vesting Deeds Transmissions or Assents of more than one property of a Retirement property Leases for seven years or less

Despite the above the system does seem to be a bit *hit and miss* though.....

DS bought a flat in 2011 that fell under none of the above exclusions and the sale price never appeared on any of the sold price sites, such as RM, Zoopla etc.

He sold it in 2014 (£385k) and I just a had quick look for it on RM where it shows the most recent and the previous sold price (£132k in 2001) but not what he paid in 2011......go figure.

Also, the sale price of the house sold by our buyers last year is not shown either. Again it met none of the above quoted criteria.

Mine is the same as this, bought in 2005 and has never showed up on Zoopla or Right Move sale prices etc, it shows up the sale price from 2003 when it was built but not registered when we bought it so it looks like we bought it from new & paid £80k less for it.

Always check land registry website. Sometimes prices don't appear in RM etc. but they always appear in LR website.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

The reasons why the price may not be shown have already been posted but it can also be 'missed' through human error when processing the application to register for example.

From purely a Land Registry perspective if you think something is missing from our data then you can report it as an error and we can investigate and amend as appropriate.

Zoopla, RM and other third party websites obtain the price paid data from us but may also add in other data obtained from other sources as well. They may also exclude some data themselves although I have not come across any posts suggesting this to date.

But for the avoidance of doubt, is it correct that a buyer/owner cannot either ask or instruct the Land Reg to hide/withold the price paid in those situations where it would normally be displayed?

I know where you are coming from, it means everyone you know can have a nosy at how much you paid, and also judge you by it.

When we bought our current house i looked to see what the vendor originally paid and what neighbouring properties recently sold for so i could use that information to make an offer.

Now that i own the house i would like ALL that information deleted so that it is no longer available to the general public. Only very rich people or those who work for the land registry and have signed confidentiality clauses should have access.

    I think it's only fair.

I think that's terribly unfair. You've basically said you want to use the data to your own advantage as a buyer, but now you're not a buyer anymore you don't want buyers to have the information.

If the data is there for you as the buyer, it must also be there for the next people to buy it. That's fair.

As soo as you put up a for sale sign, everyone goes on line and has a look at not just the price but the look of your home, style, belonging etc so they already know a lot of that.

What does the price you paid say about you? I must be barmy as I don't for the life of me know what you mean...:(
