Plus, if you go around not caring what others think, you will end up being highly unpopular. While there is a limit, disregarding others and their thoughts is wholly un-wise... in my opinion.
Their thoughts on a person based on how much they paid for their house? Noone is throwing the baby out with the bath water here, but you cannot be serious.
For the most part, we regard and conform to general social norms e.g law, customs etc etc but to feel a need to hide your home purchase price is a regard too far imo.0 -

I hardly think them not caring what other people think when doing that is in any way similar to not caring if other people judge you on what you paid for your house??0 -

If every house of your type has gone up by 10% over a year and the one you are looking at is up for 50% more than one year ago then you can tell if it is overpriced. Obviously looking at everything else like extensions, renovations etc.
But gives you a ball-park to work from. Without that were do you start, especially if moving to an area you are not familiar with.
How is this useful to nosy neighbours though? and as I said, they will just look at the EA website to see what price your selling for! and...So what?0 -

Oh I see, well I guess, other than being nosy, is of no use to them, unless they are thinking of selling and want to know roughly how much their house is worth if the same style.
Or they want to move and have to sell for a certain price, and waiting until houses nearby sell for this.0 -
When we bought our current house i looked to see what the vendor originally paid and what neighbouring properties recently sold for so i could use that information to make an offer.
Now that i own the house i would like ALL that information deleted so that it is no longer available to the general public. Only very rich people or those who work for the land registry and have signed confidentiality clauses should have access.
I think it's only fair.
So, you would like it to be available for each and every property on which you might make an offer - but then, if and when such offer is accepted, that the information is erased and not available to anyone else. Is this correct? And why do you see this ruling as "only fair"?0 -

Not fair at all, but I am curious why rich people should have access along with LR folk?0 -
