No idea what difference the name of the board makes. But all consumers have a right to not be poisoned by dodgy manufacturing processes.0 -

Talk about First World problems... I think an apology and £5 is fair enough, as long as the meal didn't cost more than £5.
I probably wouldn't have eaten it though (and I hate wasting food).0 -
well its a huge joke expecting a supermarket company to fold over and start paying large sums out for no damage.
the goods were faulty , they thanked the OP and sent monies to cover any costs incurred telling them.
they will have checked from the OPs receipt , the batch number and passed this back to the manufacturer , and would be watching for any other cases to come to light.
yes £5 is adequate in this situation.0 -

Asda's response was to send me a letter of apology and a £5 voucher, which I thought was disappointing.
Is this a normal amount to receive in the way of compensation?
What was the meal?0 -

The £5 wasn't adequate in this situation as a goodwill gesture as the OP thought it was on the low side and doesn't seem pleased with it. Personally I think it's a little low as well given that the OP would have wasted the original food, would have been marginally inconvenienced in changing their food plans and potentially marginally inconvenienced by taking the time to post the offending item back. Every individual would have a different sum in mind and no doubt some would might have unrealistic expectations but I'm surprised that a retailer wouldn't have offered £10 or so.
But in legal terms the retailer has done what they need to do unless the OP had actual and reasonable costs exceeding £5.0
