Would you ever inform the police of your child's criminality?

The fact that I think someone deserves a criminal record for things like this probably proves how effective 'they' have been at brainwashing me into a compliant member of the docile masses.
I wondered what that small micro chip in my head was ha ha.
If brainwashing means that we could all learn a little respect for others and other peoples belongings count me in!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
i must be a terrible mother lol
when my son was 7 he stole from a shop he then lied to cover his tracks so i took him to the police station - one of the community officers took him into an interview room with me and had a chat with him - afterwards he told me that he wished more parents would do this
my son has never stolen since and has the upmost respect for the police - i have encouraged other parents to do this and they have all had positive outcomes
i think it does change with the age of criminal responsibility but i dont think i really know until i got there mine are both still little! The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
Why?
If you found a couple of cans of lager in their room instead would you be rushing them down to the local AA group?
If you disagree with drug taking then fine, deal with it as you see fit. They're your kids. However, it's perfectly possible for someone to take drugs and not have a problem.
Besides which where would you take them? The doctors seems the obvious choice. However this throws up an issue for your idea. Firstly you wouldn't necessarily be allowed in the room (they're 16, capable of dealing with their own modical requirements) and unless they admit they have a problem the doctor wouldn't do anything.
Sorry to pull you up on this, I just find the idea that everyone who takes drugs has a problem (or is an addict) as ridiculous. I've known so many people who have taken drugs who have led a perfectly normal life and many people in respected professions in this country. Sure, some might have issues but it should be treated the same as alcohol. Assume the majority won't have a problem but for those that do the help should be available.
It's also rediculous to act as though even 'controlled' drug use isn't a problem. I do have issues with 'people in respected professions' doing drugs. Quite frankly, if you are for instance; a doctor, a driver, or an air traffic controller and you're doing drugs, then you do have a problem and by default, I have a problem with it. Your actions MIGHT cause problems for other people. Not realising that last nights snort of coke might affect your working performance the next day is idiotic and short sighted. It's also completely unacceptable. Go smoke anything you want to, but don't tell anyone that a bit of drug use in a professional is ok. !!!!!! - what is this country coming to.#KiamaHouse0 -
I think I would have to consider all the factors and tbh apart from murder I would hope I could persuade the child to turn themselves in. for cold blooded murder I would turn them in if they didn't turn themselves in. would feel horribly guilty but I would do it.0

Its all very well to say very glibly that you would report your offspring but I bet if it actually came to it most of you would be devastated, torn by indecision and denial. It would be the most terrible decision to make.
This tv drama is excellent in the way it deals with the dilemma. Well worth watching.

Have you ever snorted cocaine?
Even professionals are allowed time off too. Most people wouldn't choose to go out the night before work and get extremely drunk because of the effects the next day. Im sure drug users feel the same.
I have known doctors (and nurses) who have been drug users, although I can't say I've ever met an air traffic controller. As long at it isn't affecting their work (and therefore not bunging the night before work) then I have no issue.
Saying that, I'd rather have a doctor who'd snorted cocaine the night before than one who had been out drinking. However I wouldn't really want either.0 -
so, would YOU ami?0

I think it was last year seeing a bank had been robbed in Liverpool at gunpoint. It turned out that the gun was a fake and the lad was about 14 and had previously been of good character. When she found out his Mum marched him down to the police. I can't remember exactly but he got a few years jail and at the time the Mum and many other people thought it was harsh given that nobody had been injured ......... (other than the bank staff who were obviously scared). The thing was, here was this kid who was not one of the regular scallies, and what was going to happen to him locked up with scummy deadbeats. I think i remember seeing the Mum saying she wished she'd never turned him in.
He deserved to be punished and was as much a criminal as the others. Its really serious holding a person up at gunpoint as someone can have nightmares for years and their mental health can be badly affected. It does'nt matter if the gun was fake or not.
How could the Mum and others really quantify how badly people were affected? Sounds like Mum was in big time denial and was minimizing big style.0 -

No, because I don't feel the need to - and besides; I would get fired if caught doing anything of the kind in my job. I am subject to random drug tests. Similarly, when doing my job, I'm subject to a zero alcohol policy. This could be in force for months at a time at sea. I follow this to the letter, because if anything were to go wrong, I would be investigated and it would come to light pretty fast and having an incident on my conscience is not someting I want. I am a professional, and I control aircraft for a living.
You or I cannot say whether a bit of drug use would affect someone's performance the next day, and my actions could kill someone. As a result, i disagree actually, I dont deserve 'a bit of time off'. There are many other people in my workplace who have safety critical jobs. Their actions in the event of an emergency mean the difference between life and death. Yes, it is that simple; and that reductive. Hence why drugs are banned in my workplace, no exceptions.
Similarly, If I'm going to my doctor and he brushes off a concern because his tiredness and his thought processes are dulled (which does happen - a lot) my life could subsequently cut short. In short, I don't agree with you, some people shouldn't be doing drugs full stop, there no excuse for it. I don't care how many studies could be published that say drugs are safe etc, they have been proven time and time again to affect people and their reactions and their attitudes to risk. Nothing will change my mind on that matter I'm afraid.#KiamaHouse0
