Would you ever inform the police of your child's criminality?

In this world it is the wee joe bloggs who is suppossed to do everything by the book, while those making the laws do exactly as they want...or make laws to cover themselves.
What a nasty cynical way of looking at the world - I for one am glad that I do not think the way that you do - and nor do the majority.
I feel sorry for you - and any children who may be unfortunate enough to be within your influence - to feel so powerless to change the world is extremely sad.0 -

No, you decide on your own morals, or lack of. Don't confuse morality with the law.
Personally I'd grass on anyone at all if I knew they'd mugged the elderly or committed a serious sexual assault or murdered an innocent person. Those are crimes I find personally dispicable. Most of the crimes on OP's list are petty stuff. I wouldn't grass up a good neighbour for them, let alone a member of my family.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
The question mentioned Class A drugs for personal use - the includes substances like heroin. The supply of drugs is in relation to Class B drugs - this would include cannabis.
I wonder if all the people who would be not turn their child in to police for taking class A drugs realise this.
Well I don't believe anyone benefits from simply criminalising drug users, so I wouldn't turn my kids in for this. I would, however, destroy the drugs and seek help for them from a relevant organisation.Quite shocked that some folk would not tell the police about a gun in their house either.
This one is more difficult. Gun possession comes with an instant 5 year sentence and criminal record - no questions asked. The question assumed that the child was only storing it, not that they had used it for anything more serious. I'm not sure what I would do about it - do I really want my kid to be banged up because they were stupid enough to store something for a "mate". I really don't know.0 -

thistledome....Here we come to the key point,
How can anybody have a "lack of morals" when it is an individuals choice.
You dont think some things are so bad, others would disagree.....what then gives society the right to berate others "morals" when each individual picks and chooses which ones you want to adhere to....
****Just to clarify(for the people who get personally nasty because we dont all share the same view as them)...just because we wouldn't "grass" in our family DOES not mean that we then think the crime is ok. It has been proven time and time again, that jail( and even chopping someones hand off ) does not change the criminals behaviour in the majority of the cases....so if it does not work , why stick with it.McCannfiles : Read the archived Portuguese police files on the case- released 1 year after Maddie's departure.0 -
Possibly an unpopular view, but I would report all 10. Shoplifting is NOT something that 'all kids do.' I never did it and I don't know anyone who did do it.
My child would need to know the consequences of his actions and he can't simply hide behind his family while breaking the law. I would not want them to think breaking the law is okay because mummy will protect them.0 -

So ....are you the parent of the 15 year old who first of all threw a bike (not his) at the window of the shop where I work - at 9.30pm in the evening and then, when challenged by the owner of the bike, punched him and kicked him when he lay on the ground? And then, when the cctv cameras outside the shop, identified him, defended the boy on the grounds that "he was off his head on drugs and the shop had no right to take film of his activities"? And then complained bitterly when said 15 year old was banned from the shop?
Are you the parent who wants the school to do something about his kid, but does not like it when the child is removed from classes because he is disruptive? Complains because he has to get up in the morning to take his kid to school because he has been barred from the school bus because he lights cigarettes and throws them at others?
Because you wish to pick and chose which morals you want to live by? Regardless of how your life impacts upon others? Nice!0 -

The fact that I think someone deserves a criminal record for things like this probably proves how effective 'they' have been at brainwashing me into a compliant member of the docile masses.
For myself I think that any world view that simplistically divides into 'them' and 'us' without considering each as a complex individual is a dangerous one, whether it's people who consider the ruling classes as beyond redemption and fodder for the guillotine come the revolution or people who are part of the mythical ruling classes who consider everyone else as ripe for exploitation to build more personal power and wealth.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

Not only do they decide the morals( while doing what they want) but they then manipulate the general population into thinking everybody(but only those not with power) should uptake these morals(Its called keeping people in line) and if they dont, then they are usually called bad parents- which is usually shouted from the rooftops.....Just look at how they are manipulating the country with their benefits scrounger programmes and Why
All the while these moral police are putting their own down, they get told about the decision makers lapses(that always comes with a little apology and how they did not realize) and do nothing!!! ????WHY?
As for the above on here who say "off I'd march them"...Do you realize that at 16 they can and probably will get a criminal record...so bang goes their career for a small mistake, which by all means the parents by this age should have built up a good bond with their children, that they have learnt certain values relevant to their parents.
I always hate these "moral q's" because altho a lot spout about what they think is the politically correct answer, but in reality would never do half of what they put out....and thus the little moral circle grows again.
I would hate to think that together we could not change things. We are the people who put others in charge.
Also sorry call me OTT if you will but I do not think hurting other people , murder or theft with violence is a small mistake.
I would be devastated if my children did any of the above. I am not perfect I honestly do not think any one is but I am entitled to my opinion just as you are yours.
Not sure which I feel most sad about. The fact that you can not understand a different perspective or the fact that you have much a dim view of the world. We could be amazing if we tried but as long as people think there is not point nothing will change.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0
