I agree that people are responsible for the funds available on the account, but if what's shown is not an accurate representation of what is really on there how can you know how much you have to spend. Should she make a list of the every single item that she spends? is this not what online/statements should show?

Let's try again to explain. The first statement is accurate but the second statement a little while later will not be accurate because the account data will not have been updated with the new transaction until later that day. All the second statement was, was a copy of the first statement, for that reason !! ;)
  • If i have £10 and I spend £10 i should not be allowed to spend it again.

if i have £10 and spend £10 then trying to spend it again would not be an option, am pretty sure a maggot with half a brain cell could work that one out. However if i had £10 and spent £5 i would know in the back of my head "hey i gotta fiver left to play with" i worked that out with only 1 brain cell :)

This is what a receipt is for from the shop. Tell your OH to keep this until it has shown on her account.

Maybe it would help her to use cash when she goes to shops, this way if she has £10 and spends £10 she cannot spend it again.
