Thought I would give it one more go and I come up against the P60 problem.
It asks for pay details from employment and as my wife does not do any type of work, she has no earnings to enter and when I enter zero amount they say this does not match our records.
There a small link entitled 'Where to find your pay details'. This then highlights a yellow box on an example P60 form.
I really do not need to sit here staring at a screen and my wife has just said that I can can give up, so I will.
I do thank you for the replies, this forum always comes up with help.
Kind regards.
Does she receive any pensions?0 -
Sheramba
Yes, she gets a small pension from the NHS, about £80 per month.

I have used the form on the Government website today and found it so easy to do. No P60 info needed as you can just put in the last four digits of the account a pension is paid into.0

I've got under £30k pension, partner earns less than £10k.
My tax is paid by PAYE and I never need to fill in a tax return. I don't want the hassle of doing one and risks like getting fined for being late submitting, having to keep track of trivial bits like savings interest, not to mention nightmare Govt forms, flaky websites and hours long call queues trying to contact HMRC by phone.
If I sign up for shifting tax allowance will that wake up HMRC to start asking us to do tax returns?0 -

This is exactly my concern raised way back last year since my position is almost exactly the same as yours (see no 34 of this thread). Very few if any responses however dealt with the concerns which concern both of us or perhaps I missed the critical one. I can only remember one OPINION to the effect that HMRC were far too busy to start issuing returns to new people unless necessary. I am still tempted by this opportunity (now main pressure seems to have eased) but still nervous for same reasons you state.
Hopefully your having raised the issue again will lead to some clear advice to put our minds at rest and encourage us to take advantage for once of a change in favour.0 -
Simply claiming marriage allowance will not prompt SA returns.
When it first started some people where told to register but HMRC confirmed it was an error.0 -

The allowance is applied by an adjustment to your tax code, so will just get picked up by your PAYE pension, so no requirement to self assess.
Some early applicants apparently were asked to (mistakenly) but this turned out to be an error by HMRC0
