Oh Levi what a horrid end to the day, it does annoy me as well that buses think that they can just pull out and you will naturally stop/slow down to let them out, like they rule the road just because they are driving a vehicle that is three times as big then yours...

big hugs from me to you and to LL, its horrid when you hear that noise it has happened to me before when I reversed into a bollard... definitely get your writing head on and send them a verbally aggravated email showing how shocked you are at not only the bus drivers behaviour but also the behaviour of the public which made the situation feel 10 times worse and hard when you have an impressionable young child in the car with you too....

hope your week will get better with the arrival of the post tomorrow. Im hoping tomorrow will bring be the luck that my cough has done one...
    please cross your fingers....

  • Oh Levi how horrible for you and LL. What is wrong with people? You'll be in shock, so gentle with yourself and LL for a day or two. Write your letter, while the events are still fresh, but sit on it for a couple of days before sending it so that you can tweak it once the shock has gone.

Perhaps the bank of mum and dad (or brother) could be persuaded to loan you the excess?

    Lots of love xx

Levi -you poor man. What a horrible experience I am so sorry. The reactions from the general public are sickening. The driver will be severely reprimanded I'm sure. I hope your little boy is ok?

    How appalling .

You shouldn't need to pay the excess Levi, even up front - the other insurance co should stump up once they see you were not at fault.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Hi Levi

I do hope you are ok!!!!

If the fault of the accident is found to be the driver of the bus you will not have to pay the excess on your insurance because the claim would go through the bus companies insurance and not yours!!! My husband is a HGV driver and if he pulled out on another vehicle and caused an impact, and the fault was my husbands his employers insurance company would be required by law to pay for all the damage caused to both vehicles. So there is no need to claim through your insurance policy at all. You must let your insurance company know of the incident though!!!

I really feel that you should email and really make a point about the way the bus driver treated you especially as it was his fault. They may say that they have no control over the general public if an accident does happen. But, maybe if the driver was more polite about the whole thing the general public might not have treated you so badly. No excuse for that sort of language from anyone!!!

Take it easy and as has already been said give it a few days before sending the letter/email. I agree with the other poster about tweeking it if necessary. Just give yourself time to think about it first!!!

    Take care

    Hello poppet...

I am so sorry to hear about the accident, and horrified at the general public swarming your car. How horrifying. I would have had my finger on the horn blaring it until someone took some notice.

I hope you're feeling ok and LL is ok this evening. Sounds like it shook both of you up! Take care of yourselves...

P.S Edwink is right. Why are you thinking about excess when it is their fault. The bus company will have to pay up, not you flower so galvanize yourself into action and get in touch with them and ask for the insurance details, FAST. xx

Oooh in which case, I'm a little confused.. do you pay excess on your own car even if its non fault? I've drafted email to Transport for London (TfL) complaints department tonight as they own the bus company - also tracked down the stop ID and what have you from google st maps.
Thanks for the support..feeling more or less OK now but still simmering about how all the chavs laid in to me and them automatically assuming that it had been my fault, which was partly due to the driver who had immediately blamed me (apparently they are trained to do that.. or at least, not at any point to accept blame).. but I hear the buses have loads of outside cameras etc these days and they can easily trace what happened..
An eyewitness approached me soon after and said he had watched it and it was in no way my fault.. and after I'd had to pull over in to a side road to recover from nearly having an anxiety attack, a nice lady came out of a shop and said she'd seen it too, wasn't my fault, the guy hadn't looked... and offered me a cup of tea, bless her. LL is fine.. by the time we got back he was embellishing it into a 'we got into a car wreck' so by tomorrow at school gawd knows what it will be! a full on multi car pile up ;) don't show them the red scuff/small dent along my rear wing ;)

but yeah-- sorry to be a thicky re insurance.. always thought excess includes for non fault claims.. so like i'd have to pay the first £500 regardless.. but the way it was left, we didn't exchange insurance details or anything and I don't think he wants to because it would be clear it was his fault but I can easily track him down via TfL.
