  • When DD went through a phase like this I found the only way was to be consistent. So, with love, I ask.. Do you Really Really want LL to be in his own bed? If you do, then you just need to keep returning him to his own bed. Again and again and again. No rewards necessary, it's just how it is. And it might take two or three weeks of crappy sleep for both of you. If you sometimes are ok with him coming in, and it only bothers you 50% of the time, then you are going to find it difficult, because of the inconsistency. On the other hand, he's so little yet, and it's been a difficult time for you both. FWIW, I'd make his bed as attractive as possible, so lovely big duvet, nice PJs etc, but I wouldn't worry too much about him coming in to your room, he's after reassurance that you are there for him, whatever the time. And quite rightly, you are. Like I've said previously, there aren't many 14 yr old lads that want to share a bed with their dad ;). It's so obvious you're a fab daddy, it's just a phase while he reassures himself that he's secure. You'll get there, and in the meantime make the most of all the cuddles. ((Hugs)) x

I do Stepup.. it's the last major thing for getting him fully settled in (sleeping in my bed was just meant to be a temporary measure when he first moved in... and he'd always slept on his own prior to living here full time).. so I'm keen to get him to that level of independence so its like another thing we've sorted. It's not the end of the world and I hate to see him upset so you're right I am probably coming across to him as inconsistent which I'm afraid I am a bit too often in parenting because A. I'm soft and B. I hate the drama, I always feel bad about stuff like he's gonna hate me, or I'm gonna traumatise him. We've done all the stuff as normal that reinforces his secure feelings like the story, chat, letting Ozzy go in with him - but I guess most 4yr olds will push their luck if given the chance....I'm going to bed soon-ish so will hope he's fallen asleep and will stay there now.:)x

I can give LL getting on for 60 years & have to say that I wouldn't fancy sleeping under an "old lady pattern" cover, either! Perhaps a first step would be to see if you can get something bright & cheerful to replace it. If you get a double, it'll fit his "new" duvet when he gets that, but you could use it for his current duvet for the time being. Worth a look in the charity shops? Could be even better if LL "chooses" it.

:rotfl: I know.. I know.. the old lady duvet cover is far from ideal but he doesn;t help matters by being a little er. how to put this politely?. ~urine machine~ - and cause revolving bed laundry..he had a nice american flag cover in there but it's in the wash and will come back soon.. and he has a spongebob blanket he can throw over the top to hide the granniness for now :D
    Not that I can talk-
I was such a highly strung child I once refused to sleep at someones house because the spare room was lilac :rotfl:

Oh dear, Kondo is out in force on this forum this weekend :rotfl: - I have set aside a few minutes to samosa my bags. They are overflowing thanks to my shopping spree!

Like you I had a space that was enough for me and had to expand to fit in a child and all of their *stuff* - I am evil with the things I throw away. I just don't have the room for sentimentality.

As for the blanket. gallygirl I am sorry but I agree with levi. You can pick up a snuggly family blanket for less than £5 on any market. Complete with minions or anything else you want to go with the decor. If it doesn't fit, it was expensive, has never been used, and icing on the cake has the tags on... get it gone! Try the horrible bay of E for something like that mind you. As well as gum tree and so on.

As for kondo'ing t-shirts... best thing I ever did! Am trying to wash all of my new stuff in amongst the usual mountains and failing miserably right now, but once done, Kondo I will! Jelly's drawers have far MORE in them than ever thanks to new clothes boost after removing old tat. But she now has a drawer for good and one for nursery and one for bedding/pyjamas when previously only the jamas fit in that drawer and the others overflowed with stuff stacked on top!!! And (confession :o:o:o) I rarely need to iron anything of hers because the act of kondoing is enough - folding and smoothing does it all, let alone the military precision stacking until you need it ;) xx

    Sunday 22/03/15 to-do list

    - Walk doggy/fresh air.
    - Master the art of kondo - t-shirts ----> proceed to kondo all t-shirts.
    - Put away all other clean laundry.
    - Go to Lidl and spend less than £35 on weekly food.
    - Sort out the small pile of CDs I have (got rid of nearly all my CDs a few years ago when I first got on iTunes) - and bag them up ready to donate them to the music charity bin.
    - If feeling brave, make a start to clean up main wardrobe.
    - Move VHS/DVD player into storeage cupboard... use the space they vacate wisely.
    - Cook a roast chicken for dinner. Divide up the spare for this week lunches/maybe one more dinner.
    - Sort work/school bags + lunches for tomorrow.
