The Universe deffo has it in for me :(

Went to Lidl this morning to get weekly shop (£38) and picked up a sack of compost for £1.29 so we could transfer LL's sunflowers to their big pot. Did lots of research about how to go about it, and printed off some kid friendly posters for LL about the stages of growth and how to take care of them properly. Looks like they are pretty hardy apart from two things.. frost... and hail. No worries I thought.

When he came home from school he was totally excited about it, FGN got her big pot out for us and put it back her back door where it will now live, we got our gloves on, put all the new compost in and carefully transferred his 4 seedlings in to their giant new home. They look so lost in there. :rotfl:

But back to the Universe hating me :( Less than an hour later. From bright sunshine came BUCKETS of HAIL :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Sigh. FGN helped us cover it over with a black sack to protect it but I'm worried the damage is done. I will be so upset after all this careful cultivation and LL's investment in this if I've managed to kill them half an hour after putting them outside :( I know they need to 'man up' but that was a baptism of fire.

Nothing else to report today. Weekly shopping the only spend (budgeted for).. did some more CBT homework ready for tomorrow.. feeling a little gloomy. Phoned my mum again and she was snappy again. Not as bad as last week but still very critical and snappy. Her results appointment is one week from today.

Don't worry Levi!! You may be surprised!! They should pick up again as long as they were not battered down totally or broken. Anyway not too late to get more seeds and put some more in!! If you need to get a new packet of seeds check the date on them before you buy them. Most will have dates until at least 2017/18 so you can keep the rest of them for next year and the year after!! If you do manage to grow a sunflower/s you can dry the heads out and then keep the seeds for next year!! Just keep them in a dry jam jar until you need them!!

We had the hail too here but all our plants are in doors or in the greenhouse waiting for the May weather to turn a bit more friendlier for them to go out!! Made a huge mistake last year and put all of our plants out on the patio, about 500 of them!! Down came the hail stones one afternoon and battered the lot. We bought them in when the hail had stopped but by now could not see the soil in the pots as it was covered in hailstones. So had to start all over again!!! We were absolutely gutted!!! Have been very cautious this year thankfully!!!

Hope you get on ok tomorrow!! Chin up!!!!
