Hi. Have a look at deliaonline.com: http://www.deliaonline.com/ingredients/haricot_beans,127,IN.html
She gives a little bit of info on the different types of beans and a link to some recipes. I use different types of beans whenever I want to stretch a casserole or a hearty soup as they absorb the flavours - much cheaper than adding extra meat. You could also try making Mexican-style refried beans (don't have to be pinto beans), or blitz them down with olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs to make a dip if you wanted something cold.0 -
Hi; I never use quantities so here goes ... dice an onion, fry in oil gently, add diced pork loin (I usually make this with 2 or 3), diced carrot (2), diced courgettes (1), fry gently, add tin of haricot beans and a tin of chopped tomatoes or a tin of baked beans, add handful of small pasta shapes, top up with water, add a stock cube and cook slowly for about an hour on the hob ... absolutely delicious. That's Numberwang!0

Hi
I have a couple of tins of harricot and butter beans, and was wondering if you can use tinned harricot and butter beans as a hot 'vegetable' i.e. can i cook them in a nice spicy tomato based sauce or will they fall apart? (as opposed to the usual bean salad i make)
Sorry if this has been answered before, i did do a seach...
Thanks!
I make 'butter bean mash' quite often
mix 1 tin of butter beans (heated and drained) with a choppped onion ( sweated until soft), and 2oz of butter; add salt and pepper and blitz with a food processor. I heat mine in the microwave and serve with anything I would normally have mashed potato with. Delicious!!! I usually double the amounts...:D
I will be watching this thread closely as I have haricot beans in the cupboard and I haven't a clue what to do with them ....:rotfl: :rotfl:
Quite keen moneysaver......0 -
Thanks so much for all the responses.
Last night I ended up making pork meatballs, then I added the butter and harricott beans, a tin of chopped tomotoes and some passata with plenty garlic, chilli and herbs, then baked it in the oven for 40 minutes. I served it with crusty bread and there was enough to feed 3 of us, with more than half of it left, which i have frozen and will have again next week.
It was delicious!
I will be trying out some of the other recipes too!
Thanks again.0 -

I second the mash idea, it works with almost any kind of beans (yummy with chick peas, yoghurt and mustard).Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
