Narco, complicated doesn't even begin to describe my family tree!! If I say both my half brothers are equally half brother to my step sisters but not blood related to each other you should get the gist, the father of my younger brother by my mum is the ex husband of my step mum who's married to my dad! Confused? I was as a teenager I can tell you. Occasionally my kids will question why I've never appeared on Jeremy Kyle, DS1 can usually be relied upon to start singing I'm my own grandpa if he ever catches me doing family history stuff.SPC~12 ot 124

Wow! I thought my family pathology was bad enough with one half-brother and a father who could never quite get his head around that.
When I started researching my distaff sides I discovered a great uncle that had never, ever been mentioned, even to the oldest cousin who was extremely close to our grandmother. I also knew her twin sister (great aunt) really well and this gentleman's 1920s divorce papers are at Kew, so I've got some interesting reading to look forward to at some stage. Just goes to show that complications were always part of family life and when politicians start wittering on about failing family morals and their effect on social stability it always makes me laugh. Let's not talk about my paternal grandfather who had syphillis and was 'invalided home' to be locked away for 30 years in a lunatic asylum because my father certainly never did.
Tidying, sorting and clearing up muddles that I've been creating lately by starting new tasks, projects and ideas without properly finishing old ones. It's a really terrible habit of mine and one I long to break but I've done it yet again in the last 10 days and found another creative thing I want to do, started on it and now I'm drowning in new gibbley detritus.Better is good enough.0 -
Ooh loving how complex your families are.

Think I'll go out the front into the sunshine and prune my roses then I have some hand sewing to do and I still haven't cleaned the bathroom or shower room. Need to ring my sis back first though. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
It's mad. I have a (whole) brother but he lives half way around the world and wouldn't change that if our parents needed help. So it's just me. My dad has 2 stepchildren, one who lives with them, but they were both late teens when he remarried so it's not like he brought them up or anything. I was 20 when my parents separated and nearly 30 when he remarried. I don't see them either. Again, no idea why. Families, eh?
My mum is one of 5 sisters and has a really close family, one sister is estranged of her own choice, but I have lots of cousins and we are all close.Bossymoo

I know I'm supposed to just lurk this week (as not Flying other than what's required for hygiene), but I have to join in the genealogy thing.:o
It'd be a non-starter for me, as there's a very strong chance that the vile man I had to call my father actually wasn't. There's zero resemblance between me and him, and I have physical characteristics that are not evident on either my "father" or mother's side of the family.
There's also some stuff that my grandmother said when she was in hospital shortly before her death, plus some stuff that my mother inadvertently let slip, and when pressed, denied all knowledge of, and a curious incident when I was six years old, that resulted in me being locked in the garage for the afternoon. (The plot thickens!!)
All I know of the other "candidate" is that he was a Scotsman named Jim. Not a lot to go on, methinks!:DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Loving the family history
. I've got some fine complications in my family too.
Today I have
- done dailies
- emptied DW
- emptied all bins
- stripped the spare bed
- finished reading a book that I started almost a year ago
- lost 2 hours while flying
The house is clean and tidy
Now decluttering :coffee: and I haven't got to cook tonight.

Aww that's so cute.
Just back from post office, the coat I got sent had a security tag on so rag for advice thinking I could nip in local store with letter and they'd take it off for me. No not allowed to do that it has to go back to the depot to be removed then sent back to me. I will get the postage refunded and while down there nipped in the shoe shop and got my dad a lovely wallet for his birthday so not a wasted afternoon.SPC~12 ot 124

Yes please! I can figure some of it out but not all of it.
When we cleared out my mother's house, we found all of our childhood letters home from boarding school, including the ones my older brother and I wrote when we first went away at six - they got rid of us pretty early in our household. One of mine said 'I am very happy' six times - in seven lines. Something tells me I was being told what to say.Better is good enough.0
