    Interesting subject.
My own son has been awarded DLA indefinitely. This is because his health issues are life term even though he takes medication.

I do know if he had been transferred to PIP and DLA had finished his payments would have reduced some £80.

I do wonder how people would survive if they were originally claiming ESA and DLA, but then transferred to the NEW PIP and ESA arrangement.
It seems there income would reduce some £80 PM, unless ESA make the difference up ?????.:(
Dla and pip are paid at the same rates only pip doesnt have the lower care component

Seems not, I have only just spoke to a friend whom has just received his assessment results yesterday morning, his original claim and was excepted last year for DLA middle rate, the letter advised him that he would not qualify for DLA however he would receive PIP with no difference in his carers allowance middle rate which would continue, Worried about how this all works he phoned DLA / PIP, advise and amounts of what he would receive were given, according to the person he spoke to, he will now be £78.48 worse off per month..
Unless he can recover this from ESA payments it will have a massive affect on his daily living.

you are seriously confusing your benefits here.
    as has been said....
the two rates of PIP are exactly the SAME as the 2 rates of DLA (DLA low rate isn't paid under PIP)
middle rate care DLA is the same as PIP standard daily living.
high rate care DLA is exactly the same rate as PIP enhanced daily living.
DLA low rate mobility is exactly the same as PIP standard mobility.
DLA high rate mobility is exactly the same as PIP enhanced mobility

    Thank you for your input.
I am myself trying to understand all this, my friend is trying to explain to me how it all works, although confused, He tells me as he speaks over my shoulder, he is just repeating that of which he was informed via the letter and later the phone call to the PIP / DLA. He simply does not get DLA middle rate but does get PIP middle rate, its just seems according to the phone adviser there is a difference in the amount paid, however you are advising different.
Perhaps the adviser made a mistake in the info / details she gave him, I am told she did admit to being quite confused and trying to get used to the move herself.
Another phone call tomorrow he says, :(

    Regards.

there is no middle rate of PIP. just standard or enhanced.
as i said previously, the 2 rates of PIP are identical to the 2 existing rates of DLA mobility and mid/high rate care.
i think your friend needs to read up a bit as he seems to have misunderstood the information that he has received

Enhanced: £79.15 (same as the highest rate of the care component of DLA)
    Mobility component

Standard: £21 (same as the lower rate of the mobility component of DLA)
Enhanced: £55.25 (same as the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA).the amounts are out of date as its 2013 figures, but the rates arre still the same

    To return to the OP.
It is always worth putting in a claim for PIP, but do read up on the descriptors first before filling in the form and be aware of how it works so you can reply appropriately in the face to face assessment.
As to whether you should apply, if, as you say, you don't need the money because you are on a decent wage, could you use the money to make it easier for you to lead a "normal" life? Eg pay for taxis as you cannot drive.

If you really don't need the money, then don't bother claiming.
There should be no stigma to someone who has a genuine disability or medical condition, but it seems not to be that way for some people.
It is none of your employer's business whether you claim or not.

Thank you again for the details, I have past these on, and after a phone call to PIP it seems its all clear now. The part my good friend was confused about and seems he has lost which affects his payments is the loss of Mobility component, a loss of some £21 P/W.
I have asked him to register to this site as he may well find it beneficial in the future.

Apologizes to the op, it seems I may have taken over,(sorry), but hopefully there is something in the conversations that might be helpful.
Best wishes and good luck in the ops future.
  • Just had my interview, at home.

Felt very nervous beforehand, although strangely, when the assessor arrived, she seemed more nervous than me/my mom!!

The interview itself seemed very short and prompt. She saw the medication (and lots) of what I am on. She also saw the planner in which I keep to take them as well as obviously my ID.

Basically, all she did was go over the questions in which I answered in the initial forms. It seemed she just wanted more information basically in which of course I went into more detail.

The interview itself lasted half hour tops. I expected it to be longer, and in more depth and it seemed to me she was more than anything just going through the motions which leads to me thinking I will be unsuccessful in my claim.

I wouldn't read too much into that. It would also depend how much information you put on your form.
