I'd just phone up and say he was sick, never mind writing letters saying your going on holiday etc.
Theres absolutely nothing they can do about it.0 -

They can, they can fine you. If they suspect that a parent has lied about an absence they can investigate.
The 5-6 subsequent days off is also a myth. While some LEAs may recommend that to head teachers, it's always at their discretion. I've known fines to be issued for a couple of days unauthorised absence, and the education welfare may also be involved if there's a pattern or attendance drops below a certain level.0 -
my sons attendance prior to this holiday has been reception was 100% however as the school referred my son to occupational therapy and we were not at school for 1st part of afternoon we had 1.5 hours off to attend the meeting they wanted us to attend.. it was dropped.. to about 98%
This year so far he has just had 1 day sick, in which they sent him home from school at 2pm, as he didnt miss registration this doesnt count. He has only had 1 day off which was last thursday. I am pretty sure that the education welfare will not be interested in our case or pursuing it further if we get fined I will just pay the fine.
Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200
January no spend days - 1/310 -

I wasn't referring to your situation specifically, just the posters I had quoted. Giving general information on the consequences of unauthorised absence.0 -
Be careful as some local authorities have changed policies and you can be fined for 3 days or more. Also remember that you can be fined for poor attendance so if your child has further time off that is unauthorised it will all count0

I'm afraid I don't really care what the LEA think :rotfl: They can't even provide a school that provides appropriate support for our son's combination of issues, so his education is already a compromise.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I think it's very sad that children are being encouraged to lie to their teachers by parents who call in sick for term time holidays.
Would these parents be happy if their children lied to them?
And what about when these children enter the world of work? Calling in sick because they're on holiday will be ok?0 -
This would be a good topic for a sticky collecting all the threads together.0

i wont be calling in sick as it is inevitable he will come back with a tan. as even though my son is quite pale in winter he only got to look at the sun and he tans so quick.. so i doubt he would pick up a suntan whilst being of sick in april... in the uk.
i am worried about it tbh but can only tell them the truth.. he wont be in whether they agree it or not as holiday is now all booked..

Just out of interest, how much is the fine in relation to savings going away in term time? Is it 60 a day, or did I dream that.....
My daughter is 17 now so not a problem we have any more, but I remember it being so much cheaper in term time, even if had to pay the 60 a day it would have been.
I wonder if the fines are now discouraging people??Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
