Our son is at an ASD-specific school, and he gets sent home quite often for colds etc too, it's very annoying but I guess it doesn't really make any difference to his schooling:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

No of course it dont make any difference to a childs learning when they are 6 and functioning at a 3 year stage.. and is not doing any of the core tasks a 6 year old would do.. so taking my son out for 5 days should not really have much of an impact on his learning

Incidentally, I hope you didn't think I was meaning your child when I said "it doesn't make any difference to his schooling" - I was talking about our son, 5 years old and functioning like a 2-3 year old. Sounds as though we have things in common:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Yes you just inform the school in writing and the they normally tell you if they will fine or just put it down as unauthorised.0

We get an official letter once a year reminding us of the rules - though if you catch the head in person before going away, he wishes you "happy holiday!" :rotfl:

I think that you get fined if you have 6 days off at my local school. Hope you're doing ok and that ds is settled in school.0

We had a family holiday durng May bank week last year. There was no point in filling in the holiday form so we wrote in their school diaries that the children wouldn't be in that week and to record their absence as unauthorised. I phoned in the first morning with the same message. We didn't get fined as the children missed four days of school, not five consecutive days.
We are going away over the May half term this year and will probably phone the kids in sick for the two days we need extra.0 -
i was under the impression it was more than 5 days as in (6).. i dont see the point tbh in filling out a form when we know we wont get it authorised makes a mockery of wasting my time. So think nearer to easter i will just put a letter in as not going til 28 april

I'm not quite sure why its consecutive days, does that mean in theory you could take one day on, one day off? Don't you need to provide sick notes etc? Is there an acceptable percentage?
I'm not sure of the rules as my DD is in her final year of GCSEs and has always hated missing school, even from reception, I think she has half a day once to catch a flight on a Friday night. Even if she's been off poorly we've had work sent home for us to catch up, so she didn't feel she had fallen behind.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0
