I have been with GB energy since December.
The switch from British Gas was smooth and despite having to pay one Direct Debit in advance (this was easily compensated for by the refund from BG).

Yes I have to take readings once a month but this is no problem. My savings are working out to over £240 per year and you are not locked in.
I have had no problems with the web site and entering meter readings however first reading was given over the phone and contacting them was no problem.

    So far so good.

Hi, I have recently changed to GB energy , this being the first time I have changed supplier.
Everything appears to have gone well (touch wood) I have received my final bills from old supplier, GB asked me for start meter reads and I set up my online account with no problems. Can't fault them to be honest and saving a large amount of money each month. I will post any negatives if I encounter any but so far so good.

By the way can I ask when you happy people out there cancelled their direct debit to their previous supplier as mine has told me not to as It will delay refund, but if I leave it I will be paying an extra DD to my old supplier. Cheers

Just out of interest, how did you know within the cooling off period that they messed up your meter details? What do you mean by messed up? Are you sure it was them that messed it up?

The gas supply details were missing in the Welcome Pack. After speaking to GB, they promised would send a new Welcome Pack, which never arrived. Same as their confirmation for cancellation. Couldn't cancel online, had to call to cancel, then didn't receive confirmation as promised, again. had to call again to chase the confirmation. Terrible service.

I don't cancel the DD with the supplier I'm leaving until after the final bill has been settled, be it a refund or additional payment. You could end up paying twice in one month, but it does all get sorted in my experience. Mind you. I've always avoided those suppliers with poor reputations regarding billing.

I agree. I have had a situation where a switch did not go through as planned. Had I cancelled my DD, my old supplier would have defaulted my supply to its standard variable tariff. Check your ts and cs.

  • Terrible company. They hold £428 credit of mine, I switched suppliers in mid February and they say they haven't received final gas reading from new supplier Southern Electric. This is untrue as Southern Electric say they sent it to them. Unfortunately these companies have 6 weeks to wait for a reading and then can be given another reading to which they have another 6 weeks pro gratis. Meanwhile I am still waiting my £427 credit from GB Energy supply. I am phoning back and forth without success.

A big thank you to all on here who gave me advice the transition has now gone through smoothly and waiting on my old suppliers final bill.
The problem I had was my ignorance of the procedure and how it works when you transfer but once I was told on here it was straightforward.
    Thanks again everybody especially HENGUS.

Well, I'll never know as their site doesn't let me switch.
It won't accept my email address (I've tried two perfectly viable ones) or let me click to say I've read the T and Cs.

    Incredibly irritating.
  • I can't fault them to date. I initiated my switch to GB Energy Supply from Sainsburys (aka British Gas) on the 19th January. Given a switch date of 18th February and account login details on the same day. Informed first direct debit would be taken on the 9th February and monthly thereafter in my welcome pack.
Online account is a little basic but does everything I need it to. I entered my initial meter reads on line on the day of my switch having been invited to by email that morning. Followed that up with meter reads on 17th March and received my first bill based on these reads on the 20th March.

The only issues I encountered with my switch were all on the Sainsburys side. Random emails welcoming me as a customer, emails informing me only my gas was switching and once I had switched taking a payment of almost double my usual direct debit from my account which I hadn't cancelled to enable Sainsburys to repay what I was owed with the hassle of receiving a cheque by post. These were eventually sorted out with a couple of phone calls.

Looking forward to a continued smooth ride as long as GB Energy remain my cheapest supplier.
