  • Insurance might not be so bad, if you are past the silly showoffs age bracket.  I got my licence in early 30s and it was no worse than people who had been driving for years, though I suppose criteria might have changed now.  Pass Plus helps and so does putting someone extra with longer NCB on the policy.  Which reminds me, I have found my NCB worth protecting!
Hope you and plus one and furries are all settling in together, homemade chips definitely sounds a good start.

My flatmate was sooooooo annoyed to find out that I was paying £350 a year as a new driver and owner of a boring but holds value used Japanese supermini (having of course gone through all the MSE guidance and compared quotes) when he'd had a licence from 17 and was paying over £600/ year via ever increasing renewals for a rusty Escort :D

  • Wow Rosa that's sounds amazing and you really did your homework there, I may look at a smart car for year 1 but thanks for the tip good idea to run "prospective" quotes through as a guide so I can get a gauge for annual cost.

  • we did trial quotes for DD1 before we even looked at the car. Her first insurance was £1200 with a black box and this years was £900 (although she's just had to pay a chunk extra to move it to her oh address). Hopefully it'll keep going down that quickly each year. She was only 17 on her first insurance though, which is why it was so high.

That would be really sensible, I didn't think to do it with any of my cars but I bought quite similar to the first one.  I have always bought from a dealer who would at least give a guarantee for either three months or for longer on major bits and it's worked reasonably well, the cars have all been ok and the issues I've had with the van relate to its conversion not the original bits of the vehicle.  Mostly because I used to do a lot of long drives including through some remote areas, so I really really don't want to break down and I couldn't be without a car for any length of time either, so a friend's strategy of 'buy a banger, run it til it dies and just accept that every six months you will spend four hours at the side of the motorway and miss out on an event' is more stress than I could be dealing with.  Though as I just want reliable, dry transport I don't buy anything remotely cool - my flatmate at the time informed me that 'only OLD people drive those' when I got my first car :D

Yes, me too Rosa am looking forward to my old person, dry and reliable (ish) car 😂

Had a good day... So 7am flylady the whole place, attempted to sort wardrobe and toiletries. So need to do more ebay sales tomorrow. Spending it as fast as earning it on the upcoming birthdays. Think I've made roughly £99 now after post and fees.🏅🏆🎉

Brought niece 2 jeans, 2 coats, Minecraft bits and paying towards a trampolining party or maccy d 🍔🍟affair if that doesn't happen it will be primark vouchers 😎 oh to be young and dreaming of buying your own clothes not the clothes mum wants her to wear 🐒
Hope everyone's OK. I ate a whole pizza tonight and wish I hadn't just too much bread that will teach me.🙄
Busy day tomorrow and will do more listing when home in afternoon so that I can meet the £10 a day challenge 💷

You eating the whole pizza made me laugh.
I like spoiling my nieces too.
I've just got rid of my car but may get another when I am settled. The repairs were a bit much. Like you and Rosa I'll be looking for something dry and reliable next time :)

I've always had amazing local transport but feel a bit out in sticks now so hence the car and also useful to pick up work when I decide long term what I am going to do with my life 😁 we have looked at somewhere called stubbington  to move next year but quite pricey. My niece is in Devon so not to bad and am very lucky that plus ones family are all genuinely lovely (hence all the pricey gifts I'm selling on ebay lol) I guess I've been spoilt and always lived in great locations.
