  • Wow - sounds like big changes ahead for 2016 - how exciting!

In the grand scale of things adding 15k to the mortgage is a relatively small amount. Particularly for you, it would probably be cleared in a matter of months!

Finances aside, is it far away from where you are now? Would DD still be able to go to the same school?

It's a big decision but if it is your dream house then it is a small price to pay :j

  • Hi princess Lou, it's nearer family, around 20 mins away. DD is at school nursery local to us at present so would start a different school full time in September, I'm not sure about the interim period. She's a chilled out adaptable little girl so I'm sure she would be fine.

Did your boys enjoy Christmas? Xx

Children are very adaptable, particularly at that age. I'm sure she will be fine too.

We had a wonderful Christmas, thank you. Although the living room still looks like a toy shop and I'm struggling to find space to store everything

It really is. I've mentioned it twice, to the parents, and otherwise I'm just ignoring it. There's a chance that one of their other sons would like to rent this house if I move out (I may need to look after my mum, for instance) and I don't want a formal dispute anyway, so I shut up ...

    Too right :j:j:j

Everything from more fruit trees, to nut trees, to perennial veg like Jerusalem artichokes and wild garlic, and a "lawn" thats full of saffron crocuses :j Chilis! Have you seen the price of artisan chili sauce? £4 a little pot round me

You can tell what I'd have liked to do in my younger days, can't you :D
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • I have gutted our office/playroom today of all the useless carp that the kids never, ever play with. Also bagged up a load of age inappropriate toys (i.e. too babyish) to give to a friend with a newborn.

The space looks cleaner and clearer, DH has been dispatched to the tip to get rid of all the cardboard. Our kids have received so many toys this Christmas its scary, despite our repeated, kind, requests not to get them much unless it was clothing based. Sigh. I sound so ungrateful I know but where do people think we are going to house all these things?!

Plus I fear the children cant make sense of what they actually have to play with as there is just SO MUCH STUFF so they don't play with anything properly at all. They're watching TV now, ignoring the piles of stuff currently in the hall! xx

  • £500 shuffled to the savings pot. Whether we move or not, the pot is growing nicely to be utilised as and when required. A lovely feeling :)

  • Good Morning all,

Online shopping has been delivered and put away, and I have logged on and requested a refund for all the F&V as it was all either overripe or underripe :(. About the feed the tiddlers, then an easy day in store I think - DH has taken the car to work so I couldn't go anywhere even if I wanted to ;)

Air BnB reservation for Monday night was booked in late last night, another £25 in the pot :)

Have lovely days all xx :)

  • Morning ATB. I hear you loud and clear about the presents. When mine were younger we used to put half their gifts in the loft until later in the year and then swap some out. They could get their heads around the new stuff in smaller doses!

    Have super day too.

Last OP of the year made, and just a mini one of £4.86 to bring the mortgage to a nice whole number :)

Even if we do move, and extend the mortgage slightly to do so, we are still aiming for a 2020 MF date.....I must need my head testing :) But, I am only 30, and if we don't push ourselves to achieve wonderful things now, we will always be left thinking "if only"....

I have just rejigged our monthly budget spreadsheets to take into account the variation in a couple of direct debits recently. Excluding my small business income, which is variable from week to week, we have £2,411.20 coming in each month overall, with outgoings of £1350.27. This leaves a good surplus of £1,060.93 which is for food, fuel, fun money and nursery. On DS current number of days at nursery, the fees take up almost half of our surplus.

So if we moved we would save money in the following ways:
    - no nursery fees
    - very low electricity bills as the house has solar panels
    - low heating bills due to multiple wood burners

Oh gosh its a lot for my little mind... x
