That he asked you to send him a contract suggests to me that he's done this before and knows full well that he's taking advantage of people. Without the 'contract' most people would put down the phone, think "what on earth did I just agree to?" and contact him to say they've changed their mind. He is a bully, plain and simple. I hope he goes away and leaves you alone.0

It is normal and good practice to put the agreement in writing as soon as it has been reached orally.
In itself it does not suggest anything.0 -
My main gripe is why you are exempt from responsibility resulting from your actions. You are clearly a smart person and got yourself into a bit of a pickle by not approaching a third party before writing out a possible contract. Keep that in mind for future transactions as I wouldn't want you to end up in this mess again.
This reminds me of a poster who posted explaining he had got memory problems.hed lost something, and someone couldn't resist posting to tell him he should be more careful next time.
Kind of completely misses the point..0 -
Why on earth should the OP pay for the ticket? How ridiculous! You want to buy something from a store, phone up and they say yes it's in stock, travel there and then they say sorry but it's now been sold. And you ask for your petrol money or train ticket money? Or On Freecycle the same scenario happens. Sheezzz...
So if you agree to buy something (from either a person or shop) buy train tickets, turn up and they've sold it to someone else you wouldn't be upset?
Legally I doubt they'd have much of a claim but morally is a different matter. If I'd messed someone around and made them spend money unnecessarily I'd put the situation right and refund the train tickets. If you'd do it a different way that's your choice.
Of course the agression shown in the OP's case changes the situation somewhat but I made my post before the information was available.0 -

It would be very easy to change your mind now then.0 -
Sorry, should have just quoted your last paragraph.
Generally I think people should refund the tickets. However if someone is ringing up threatening the seller then clearly their personal safety comes first and I completely agree with the OP's actions.
BTW OP, well done for standing up to him. I appreciate it couldn't have been easy and you've handled the situation extremely well. You should be proud of yourself.0 -

Yes, it's happened to me and it's very irritating, but I put it down to life's experience. I didn't harangue or bully the person, just moved on.0 -

There are a number of vulnerable people living in the community who are easy targets for people to take advantage of.
I agree that it would be annoying to finalise a deal and then find that the seller withdraws.
But too often vulnerable people get prayed on and their rights must be protected. If one of our grandparents signed a contract to have 2 slates repaired on their roof for £10,000. We all know what we would do to the roofer.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0
