Vw volkswagen mpg figures

Yes but would it be a false statement if he said he had achieved them,to confirm the figures he is stating ?0
-
Of course they are, because they will simply repeat the figures given by the manufacturer, and as has been explained to you those figures are rarely achieved in the real world. If you have an issue with this take it up with your MEP to have EU testing rules revised, or do your own research to find websites where actual consumption figures are recorded by vehicle owners.
Or just carry on banging your head against a seriously immovable brick wall. :wall:

Throwing any more energy at this or trying to exploit loopholes will get you nowhere (unless of course you have a sworn afadavit from the salesman backing up your claim) :rotfl:0 -
My car says I'm getting 99.9mpg when I'm coasting, but I suspect that is below what I'm really getting as it can't display any number bigger than that...
So, basically I can say with all honesty that I can get any mpg figure you like between 0.0 and 99.9.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Yes there is!
Graph based on 'combined' data. This table shows standard EU test figures on fuel consumption which are for comparative purposes and may not reflect real driving results. For more information on how fuel consumption is calculated please see the VCA Website.

And the salesman is not there to sell you a car, they are there to try and sell you finance, you go and buy a car outright and watch how quickly their tails will drop.0 -
All cars go on the same TWO drives (in a lab). You get an 'urban' drive, and an 'extra urban' drive. I've got an article on it that tells you the actual 'routes' they take - I'll find it and post here.
So you've got those two figues, and they get averaged into a 'Combined' MPG number. You'll often see the 3 figures posted. They're not lies.
No manufacturer can guarantee you what MPG YOU will get. They don't know where you're going or how you drive.
You're disappointed with the MPG of your new car.
Firstly, if it's a brand new car, the engine needs to be run in. Your MPG won't have settled yet.
Secondly, you need to work out where you are on the scale of 'Urban, Combined and Extra-Urban)'.
What are the figures for your previous car? Goto Parkers.co.uk to find out.
Now, what do (did) you actually get? Is it closest to the U, C or EU?
Guess what, if you're currently getting the Urban MPG, you'll still get that in your new car, so that is the figure you should be looking at!It is something that needs looking at, the quoted MPG figures should be for a randomly selected bog standard car with two passengers taken on a pre set urban road, town road and motorway, brimmed up and thats the figure.
I am amazed the EU are not on this for if they are fiddling MPG they are fiddling emission per Mile as well
It doesn't need looked at - is IS a standard test. I've heard the stories about taking wing mirrors off and stuff which obviously wouldn't be on (IF it's actually true, and not pub gossip!), but they do all follow the same route.
AdrianC:So this pre-set urban road... Apart from the fact that every single car manufacturer selling cars in Europe will apparently be testing every single technical variant of every single model on this particular pre-set road, will there be some sort of control over traffic conditions, road surface conditions, temperature, the waistline of the occupants etc etc?
It's not a road! There is no traffic! Stay tuned and I'll post the details...
fogotmyname:Pre warm the car before your journey and you might get close to the manufacturerd figures.
This detail I remember - the Uban cycle is done from cold. FACT.
BLACKJACK:i am asking if there are people/ consumers being given the the figures and have been told they are achievable , i have a specific reason for asking this question
Yes they are being given the figures. Yes they are acheivable. Why do you need to know.quoted mpg for the new polo 14tdi combined mpg is 83
my trip computer reads 53 mpg , this has been obtained from main road driving with very little town driving ?
i am asking if the salesman are giving any miss leading figures
No he's not, he's right - the MPG is 83 on the Parkers website:
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/volkswagen/polo/hatchback-2009/64189/
And on the VW website: (the non Bluemotion 1.4TDi - 70.6 C, 83.1C, 91.1 EU)
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/polo-gp/which-model/engines/overview
So it would appear that your driving is nowhere near the combined figure you were quoted. Again, if you think you're being lied to, then all manufacturers are telling you exactly the same lie.0 -
The really sad thing about these figures is that the old "55mph / 75 mph" figures they replaced actually were achievable by most drivers.
But [cynical] they weren't increasing fast enough to sell new cars. You can realistically get pretty much the same (real life) economy from most pre-2000 cars as you can from the modern equivalent. The real difference is often only 2 or 3 mpg instead of the 10 to 15 that the "improved" test suggests [/cynical]0 -

But [cynical] they weren't increasing fast enough to sell new cars. The VW up on the better specced models comes with a 'think blue' trainer which allows the driver to see as they drive how gear changes and acceleration/braking are affecting MPG.
But, again, for the benefit of the OP who may not have spotted my post at the bottom of the last page - it would be ILLEGAL for the manufacturer (or anybody on their behalf, including the salesman) to quote any fuel economy figures EXCEPT the official ones.0 -
Your figures are spot on at 53mpg (which in the winter is pretty good)
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/volkswagen/polo-v-20090 -
My mpg goes well down below freezing, I can see as low as 45mpg as opposed to 55mpg in the summer on my 14 mile drive to work. The longer the trip the less difference there will be, but will still be a bit.
The more mpg your car does the more you'll notice the drop.0 -

The figures ARE achievable - providing you do very long steady runs.
My 2012 Golf 1.6TDI is quoted at 62.1mpg.
On my 45 mile each way commute i've been able to average around 66mpg measured brim to brim on EVERY fill over the last 30,000 miles.
Now, i've recently changed job roles and all of my running is shorter / medium runs and it rarely breaks 50mpg.
Also, dont forget if your car is brand new, it will take perhaps 5000-10000 miles before you get optimum MPG.0
