Salesmen will tell you anything you want to hear, especially if it's essentially information supplied by the manufacturer, and all that is necessary is to ignore the small print...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Of course they are, because they will simply repeat the figures given by the manufacturer, and as has been explained to you those figures are rarely achieved in the real world. If you have an issue with this take it up with your MEP to have EU testing rules revised, or do your own research to find websites where actual consumption figures are recorded by vehicle owners.
Or just carry on banging your head against a seriously immovable brick wall. :wall:0 -

If they quoted numbers that weren't manufacturer supplied then maybe.
If they are using the numbers supplied by VW obtained under standard test conditions then no.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

The salesperson, is just repeating the figures on the brochure, as said, the figures are for comparison purposes, you wouldn't expect an XL1 to really give you 300mpg, however you would expect it to get greater mpg than your current car.
I think you will find under any of the MPG figures theire is a disclaimer that these figures may not be achieved under everyday driving conditions.
This is the figures from a short town hop in summer to my Mum's
Not the 44mpg quoted, but I will accept that from 2 litre petrol.
I think you you are getting 50+mpg, you have little course of complaint. Saying you were misold the vehicle just isn't going to cut it I'm afraid.0 -

As above the salesman is giving you the manufacturers figures which are not real life figures.
Blame the people that created the misleading test. Or blame yourself for not liviing and driving to work in a laboratory where you can simulate the test enviroment.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The VW up on the better specced models comes with a 'think blue' trainer which allows the driver to see as they drive how gear changes and acceleration/braking are affecting MPG.
It's a pity all other models don't come with it and I will miss it when my new VW car comes next month.
FWIW I get an average of around 50mpg, - I can get up to 61mpg and I know it's perfectly possible thanks to the trainer -but it does mean careful driving and keeping an eye on the monitor, which I am not great at doing, saying that I'm perfectly happy with 50mpg average.
A salesman will naturally quote the book mpg figures and these are more than possible in the real world IMHO.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
There are no disclaimers on the actual vw advertising clip ,configure ,configuring the car you want then the drop down box displaying the model and engine , this gives the 3 mpg figures without ref to the eu regs etc, no ref to not being able to achieve the figures, the salesman will then confirm these figs for you.0
