Vw volkswagen mpg figures

Can anyone help me ref how vw state the achievable mpg figures on new vehicles, i recently purchased a new vw, the stated mpg figures do not match those we are achieving, ?
My question is what do the vw sales personel tell you in ref to the figures, ?
Have they told you they have achieved the figures themselves in the model in question.?
Do they or have they given you any gurantee or told you the figures are accurate ?
Do they use a tablet computer to show you the mpg on a vw advert ?
Can you give me any info thanks

  • All manufactures achieve the stated MPG figures in "laboratory" conditions, not on the open road.

You will rarely achieve the stated MPG figures unless you drive very economically.

No manufacturer is going to guarantee fuel consumption figures, there will certainly be disclaimers in any advertising. They know just as well as any slightly informed buyer (which you appear not to be) that the figures are unachievable in normal motoring conditions.
  • It is something that needs looking at, the quoted MPG figures should be for a randomly selected bog standard car with two passengers taken on a pre set urban road, town road and motorway, brimmed up and thats the figure.

I am amazed the EU are not on this for if they are fiddling MPG they are fiddling emission per Mile as well
I do Contracts, all day every day.

You may get near the quoted figures in the summer time, the figures are calculated in temperatures above 20c and are from cold 2 miles (urban) when the engine is warmed up 3 miles iirc extra urban, then an average of the two figures (combined) and are for comparitive purposes, my urba spec is 34mpg, at present I get 28mpg on the 6 mile run to and from work, on a run 42mpg, in the summer 32-33 urban and mid to high 40s on a run.

I have a VW Golf 2.0 TDI GT BlueMotion Technology 140PS. The official combined mpg figure is 66 (although I seem to recall it as 63 when I got mine in 2012).

My real average mpg is 51 over approx 33k miles.

I too have a new VW (polo 1.4 act).

    It claims up to 62mpg

I achieve the quoted mpg figures probably 1 time in 20 on my daily commute, more normally getting 58ish. I am happy with this.

On a tank to tank refill, I get roughly 53, which is fair.

If weather bad, traffic conditions don't suit, or simply I want to floor it every now and then, I get about 50

The big factor is how you drive it. It doesn't state anywhere you'll achieve xMPG driving at 70/75. I stick to around 60/65 on motorways and at the speed limit elsewhere.

    Hope this helps

So this pre-set urban road... Apart from the fact that every single car manufacturer selling cars in Europe will apparently be testing every single technical variant of every single model on this particular pre-set road, will there be some sort of control over traffic conditions, road surface conditions, temperature, the waistline of the occupants etc etc?

Or perhaps it's just a lot easier to accept that the real world has all sorts of variables which are outside of your control, and define a set of repeatable, directly-comparable tests under laboratory conditions...?

Disconnect the alternator, Waterpump and aircon system etc. Tape over all your panel gaps and tape all the door shuts. Remove any excess weight from the car and remove the external mirrors, Increase the tyre pressures beyond their max limit.
Pre warm the car before your journey and you might get close to the manufacturerd figures.

Whats a VW Volkswagon? Is it a new model? Bit like Ferrari The Ferrari?
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • i am asking if there are people/ consumers being given the the figures and have been told they are achievable , i have a specific reason for asking this question
