  • ...thanks for your views too NotAnExpert. I must admit that I hadn't given punctuation a second thought before. However, after reading "Eats Shoots & Leaves" I am amazed at discovering the difference that punctuation actually makes.

Good luck to all those applying or waiting to hear.:D

I have been doing AQA for about a year now but the amount of questions available at the moment (especially at the weekends) are the lowest I've ever known, making it difficult to make any decent money. I've asked my SR as to why but haven't received a response yet.
  • oh heck, kay_da_gurl...think I missed the boat too this time, serves me right for dithering!
Best of luck to you when they open the doors again.

    Maybe that's why textperts isn't recruiting ;)

My problem is that the dash ("-") seems to nearly always be suitable (in my mind) where a semi-colon would be preferable. "I love Fridays; they signal the end of a long week". But... "I love Fridays - they signal the end of a long week" also works, doesn't it?

I think I'm actually trying to teach myself here. Sorry, everyone!

I think the dashes are meant to be used a bit like ()... ie... dash, then qualifying point, then dash, then back to the sentence.

I was irritable - in fact I had been for weeks - and I was making my boyfriend's life a misery.

One reason why a - isn't "good value" when working with AQA is that you need a space either side of it, whereas a colon, comma or semicolon only needs one space. With only 153 characters every character counts! :rotfl:(oops, and no exclamation marks allowed )

    Hi

I've just completed my application and done my test. Was wondering if someone who is already doing it would mind having a quick read though and letting me know what they think? I've already sent it back to Rowina, but it may take a few days to hear back and i'll have no nails left by then :)

    TY v much

I sent my application form and the test questions to Rowina on 22 March but have not heard anything. Should I continue to wait, or send an email to ask what is happening. I note on the site that they are no longer advertising for UK Researchers.

I got the Bad News email this afternoon:

Thank you for your interest in AQA 63336 and for undertaking the test & apologies if you have already received this email.
As mentioned previously, the success of your application depends on the results of the researcher test. This is marked according to content, length, spelling, punctuation and grammar. Strict adherence to the test rules is also required.
Having reviewed your results thoroughly, I’m afraid that we have decided not to take your application further.
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback on the contents of tests or test scores.
Please note that applicants may not reapply within 6 months and, if they fail a second time, future applications will not be considered.
Thank you for applying and I wish you luck in your future career.
    Kind Regards
    Rowina

All that hard work to be knocked back. It's Red Wine with our meal tonight:eek:
