  • so you're opening someone elses bank statements?

I'm not opening anyone's bank statement no, but this is irrelevant, what i'm asking is... If someone is getting £160 per week WTC, with a monthly take home of £1000, are they committing benefit fraud?

Yes the DWP will carry out an investigation and then ask him to attend an interview. He sounds very cheeky I work 30 hours a week and have a debilitating illness and I cant get anything else other than my own earned for wage on which I pay tax and NI. It annoys me how some people get away with murder like this man you mention, I know someone getting all sorts of benefits saying he cant walk properly etc and he can.

As said before many times to you.....You have no idea what this man you know has wrong with you....Lots of people lie about their actual illnesses / disabilities by telling them one thing when its actually another because of busybodies buzzing around for the gossip.

Depends on lots of other factors, but if your girlfriend is concerned she is the one that needs tomake the call.
  • Report him then but make sure you have got your facts right but presumably if he has nothing to hide and everything is above board the DSS will just interview him and look into it. Is your girlfriend claiming for the two children?

Do you not think it would have been wise to ask that question before reporting him ?

Yes you are opening bank statements, well technically your partner is and you are privvy the the persons confidential information so whther you opened it or your partner opened it - it's the same.

my final answer is if you genuinely believe they're tax dodging then make the complaint. As long as you genuinely beleive that and it's not down to a personal vendetta then your conscious should be clear.

[n.b. I suspect a vendetta is part of it as you're opening their bank statements and you know where they live and not forwarding them]

Tax and beenfits are complex. You don't really know what they're receiving, it could be a back-payment. It could be based on overestimates from previous tax year.

Or it could be subject to income assessment at year end and he could rightfully hand back overpayment to HMRC.

But opening and checking someone bank statements. tut tut tut.

  • 1. I've already done the calculations and worked out he should not be earning anywhere near that amount of WTC.

    2. I did NOT open any bank statements

    3. I didn't know most of you like to PROTECT benefit fraud! I didn't realise it's such a sensitive subject to report potential benefit fraudsters.

He pays £47 a month, for 2 children, when his income is £1000. She has told child maintenance time and time again he is earning £1000 but still only £47, funny hey!
