yes its common, the motivation is greed - profit , not parking control , they want people to break the rules so they make up as many petty rules as they can and try to get the maximum charge that they can, especially PROSERVE for an extreme example

everybody who is new here should read the sticky threads , especially the NEWBIES sticky thread - several times

its not reading those threads that lead to the same questions over and over again

one of which is a GLOSSARY of TERMS for acronyms (so now you know where that list is)

    PO = Post Office

    CoP = Code of Practice

bear in mind you are not going to get a list of 500 acronyms , people are expected to know PO (taken from the old G.P.O.) , BT , MP , ICO , DVLA , BPA , IPC etc

as for this NEWBIES thread, you have been asked to read it many, many times

post #3 deals with popla appeals, and you would usually have at least 3 items on your list, I only see 2 so far

the main 3 are not a gpeol , no contract , poor signage , never mind any additional points

I am still not sure which PPC it is , despite the replies , but you need to draft that popla appeal and get it in before it expires (they are listed on the BPA site but no website)

click on the blue words in post #3 to find the popla examples

you can ignore debt collectors, POST #4 of the newbies thread tells you that

so to recap, everything you need is in or linked from that newbies thread , so every time you ask about something you will be pointed at that same thread until you are sick of it ;)

but its all there, if you look

    good luck

    Hello,

Thanks for clearing up what those meant, I did actually use the newbies thread to check for meanings, but the only post I found was #2 by Coupon-mad and unfortunately its not complete and does not contain the above. Is there another list you are referring to because no doubt I will need to look some things up again!

Could you help me buy trying to explain what Ampersand was trying to get at above by saying the following, its all going over my head a little.

"REPEAT - NEVER EVER CALL THEM - UNDERSTOOD?

'I felt I had to, as when I appealed, they said I hadn't and then increased the charge to £100.' - we'd certainly like to see wording which confirms this.
What? - that you hadn't called them?

Didn't you obtain a free COP from PO, or a screen shot? [you know to now:-)]"

What wording is he trying to get at? Wording that I had missed the opportunity to pay the initial charge?

And the second part, what code of practise from a post office? And a screenshot of what.

    Thanks,

he is a she, so ask her , lol

I edited my post about acronyms, you are not going to get anyone listing 500 or a thousand acronyms on here or anywhere else, no , sorry, google usually helps though

as this COP is referring to the PO she means Certificate Of Posting , not CoP which is Code of Practice , lol

no there is no other list, thats the list, and if CM doesnt wish to make it a mile long then thats up to her as a volunteer on here too - sorry again

you dont "have to" do anything, a phone call never settles these issues and they will intimidate you into trying to get you to pay up, nothing else matters except the MONEY

re-read my last reply as I expanded on some stuff you need to look into , like more popla appeal points and checking the expiry date

Oh wow, did not mean to offend someone trying to help me. Sorry ampersand.

I think the PPC was cleared up to be UK Parking Ltd.

When my initial appeal was rejected a letter came through saying please pay the increased amount or contact POPLA. Because my initial appeal was sent within 14 days I was eligible to pay the lower amount, so I called up (before finding this forum) and asked them to re send a letter with the correct lower amount.

Nearly a week later I have not got this letter with the lower amount. Should I wait to receive this (will my POPLA number change). Or should I just go ahead and submit my POPLA appeal with the POPLA number on the incorrect higher charge notice.

    Thanks,

send in the popla appeal once you have added more stuff to it, check the expiry date using the cowboys code checker

the PPC will be letting you run down the clock until the popla codes expires (yes they are that devious)

you will never get 2 popla codes for one incident, once its gone , ITS GONE ! period

most of us on here hadnt heard of them so thought you meant UKPC, you dont, so get the popla appeal finished and come back with it PLUS tell us the expiry date asap too

you need more than 2 appeal points, at least the 3 I mentioned , so where is the SIGNAGE point ?

dont assume people on here are men, some of the top replies you may get will be from ladies like coupon-mad and @ampersand , so maybe 50-50 split

    good luck

In terms of the parking cowboys checker I got the following:

    "Deadline information
Your appeal deadline is Tue Feb 24 2015
You have 16 day(s) remaining for your appeal to reach POPLA
    Grounds for complaint
This code was generated 1 day(s) before the date of your appeal rejection letter. This means that you have not been given the full 28 days to appeal that you are entitled to under the British Parking Association's Code of Practice. Please consider making a complaint."

What exactly is this telling me? That I wouldn't have had 28 days to appeal. Should I actually make a complaint to BPA. Does this affect my POPLA appeal?

That doesn't surprise me, just wanted to confirm if POPLA codes change.

Thats no problem, its all cleared up now, just confusing for someone new to clear up.

I will add a couple more relevant points.

And to be honest that was very silly on my part, good to hear MSE is one of those places that actually had a fair gender split!

    Thanks,

its telling you that you had 1 day less than you should have, no big deal so ignore it and move on to your popla appeal , no need to rush it yet, but get it done by this weekend if possible if posting it by snail mail at the PO

if doing it online, you can attach your appeal to your submission on their website, so more wiggle room

check your points 1 and 2 against winning appeals, add more where necessary or important

then look at those other appeals for signage and any other issues like not pofa compliant etc, use whatever you can , dont lie (obvious I know) , if in doubt stick to the main 3 , come back once you have a better appeal that includes signage and any other expanded points, even for points 1 and 2

DO NOT MISS THE POPLA DEADLINE, this is important

    Burgeration - reply just disappeared.

    Thanks Redx.

bm - I'm still unclear where you are in the timeline.

If you have a valid POPLA code, 5 days of its life have been used up on this Thread without our seeing your full draft.

    READ THOSE STICKIES.

Make a list of headings for each point, then set them out, one by one.

What is your POPLA deadline please?

ALWAYS obtain/retain proof of anything sent to any of these scumpanies.

When I write: REPEAT - NEVER EVER CALL THEM - UNDERSTOOD?
    no explanation is needed.

    You still haven't clarified this.

  • When sending any appeal to a parking company :
Use certified postage (free at post offices) even if using e-mail, send a certified written copy.

    Head the letter :
Served Notice of appeal to parking charge notice date xx/xx/xxxx

This should be a stickie !

    @mp

the BPA website lists this company but unusually lists NO WEBSITE for them , hence the confusion , but I believe the OP has told us the correct info but I have never heard of them before and I couldnt find them searching this forum either

plus the deadline was the 24 feb (see above)

I too was worried they were running down the clock, but 2 weeks is ample to sort this out
