Up and coming? Definitely not. Northampton can be a bit of a grim place, but there are some nicer areas just outside town - e.g. Abington, Kingsthorpe Village. And there are some lovely villages a short drive from the town if that's your thing. Prices in Northampton are relatively cheap compared to other areas though, and much cheaper than Milton Keynes which is just down the road.
It depend on what your needs are really, but as someone who lived (and owned) there for a couple of years, I'm happy to answer any questions.0 -
With out budget of £100 000 ONLY !! we cant find any thing in that bracket and if we do its shred ownership which we thought would make more sense buying a property out right but in any area, which i somehow feel Wellingborough just isnt the place to start out.0

I agree Brixworth is a nice area with affordable house: Property for sale in Brixworth. It is an upcoming area, even now the house prices nearly match those of London! Have a look.
lol. There are lots of pricey houses, but lots of cheaper houses too.
I like quite like this place:-

It's "only" a terrace, but solid built, front and back gardens, off road parking, 2 reception rooms and reasonable sized rooms.
I viewed one similar a while back and it was lovely. Old fireplaces, original wood floors.0 -
There's also some apartments and flats, but they don't do anything for me. And lots of bugalows for some reason. Not sure why.

eeekk neither wellingborough has had little or no investment in the town for years at least not that is obvious, northampton is very dirty in the town centre these days personally I would not choose to live in either with the towns of preference in northamptonshire being Daventry and Kettering over and above w'boro or northampton or corby although corby is having a massive amount of cash spent to improve things and negate the problems the town has.
Also reading the local paper invariably the crimes reported are in corby and wellingborough - my local rag does not cover northampton,

The villages really do offer a much better standard of living/safety IMO. Everyone's so nice and it's a lovely environment. Parks and countryside everywhere.0

This one has been on the market with 2 or 3 agents for at least 6 months

Might be offerable. Nice house IMO. Just need the dodgy decoration neutralising/modernising. Guess that's what's putting people off.0 -
Think some of you are being a bit hard on Wellingborough. I agree totally with fulltimemum, who posted that there are good and bad areas. I went to Wrenn school, and went on to complete A'levels and college degree as did most of my school year who obviously represented a wide social/ethnic scale, so we cant have all been that bad.
Also, and I mean this with the greatest respect as I dont want to offend, you are working to a budget, as most people are in some form, when buying
a home, and £100k doesnt buy you an awful lot of choice in this area. It may be that you have to compromise to begin with (maybe the kids could share a room initially) or it may not be in the best area to start with. At least though, you will be a homeowner and able to move to something that you prefer later on.
Make a list of priorities of what you need/want from a home, and just try to meet some of them!!!!0
