Focus DIY Closing Down (merged)

Informed that the 2 Bedford Stores (Asburnham Road and Rope Walk) Last Day of Trading will be Approx 9 September.
Do not know if this is true but told by one of the assistants.
Do not know if this is just Bedford or happening Nationwide.0 -
I can't believe the Hove store isn't going into liquidation. It's right next to a Homebase and their prices are ridiculous. I usually drive the five miles or so out to Shoreham B&Q rather than 10 minutes to Homebase or Focus. I occasionally go into Homebase; I NEVER go into Focus because I know they're rubbish.
I tell a lie; I bought some logs from them last year for the fire. They turned out to be wet, half-mouldy, and wouldn't burn. :mad:Debt Free Nerd #3100 -
If they continue to increase the discount they will soon be down to the same price as other DIY stores. No great surprise that they have gone into liquidation nor any great loss.
Focus have not gone into liquidation. The new owners have decided that 52 stores do not fit into their future business plan.
Ps... thanks for the concern over the potential loss of my and 1250 other jobs!!! :rolleyes:0 -
Does anyone know if focus still do the 10ft trampoline for £99? It was a good deal before and if its still running should be unbeatable0

The Bedford stores go in 3-6 months according to the lost soul on the checkout.
Seems to be a bit of confusion at the Bedford Stores.
At Bedford-Ashburnham Road, One Assistant told me 2-3 months, yet when I went in to get a car pass today, was informed that they have been told to give out weekly passes only as they do not know when they will be closing and did not want to give out monthly passes as customers cannot claim money back if store closed early.
Can anyone get a statement from Head Office indicating the dates they have planned, or is it all still in the air.0 -
The only store that has been confirmed as closing in the 52 stores at the moment is Wakefield No Frills. No other closing announcements have been made as yet. Wakefield closes on the 28th September.
As for the rest, as my previous posts, Hilco are actively looking for buyers but have been set a make or break date of 31st January 2008.0 -
Can confirm that the over 60's and homemovers card do not apply to stores that are in liquidation. They were valid til last Wednesday.0

Apologies if you live far away from Bedford but this may not just be local
Bedford-Ashburnham Road Store has taken all 10% off Stickers down and made it a General Sale
Some stuff in there is 70% (Kitchens Etc) Assistant states that reductions will range from 20% upwards but could not state on what.
Looks like Bedford is closing soon as there is a notice on the Delivery Entrance Door stating:-
This Store is not accepting any more deliveries.
Please contact (Tel No)/Store Manager for further details
Looks like I will be in Bedford Store in the next few days.0 -
Jab - thanks for the info - I ordered around 2K worth of stuff from that very store and was told by the manager that it should be delivered this weekend when previously he said it would take a couple of weeks. So looks like they are clearing the boards. I still need some tiles so will pop in and try to make a deal.
Thanks for the tip off.0 -
An update...
Confirmed as closing:-
Wakefield No Frills
Eastbourne Focus (Announced on 24th August)
Walton Focus (Announced Today)
Remember! Be gentle with the staff, They have just lost their jobs. :shhh:
All other stores, still up for sale at the moment.0
