There is a lot of building going on in London. However the amount of affordable housing is "token".

How about encouraging some firms to move out of london?
There doesn't seem to be a need to have a back office in London anymore for all but a few, but market forces doesn't seem to supply the motivation required to overcome the inertia of replacing or relocating staff.

Banks have moved back office staff, relocating them to Third World places like India, China, Liverpool and Bournemouth.

BofA had a back office in Bromley once.

    Totally ruined the area

We had a German guy with us once as a junior dealer back in the 80's.

One morning I answered the phone and a voice said "I am in Liskeard"

    Brilliant!

We had a Grad at HSBC that couldn't or wouldn't get a cab home at the end of a night in the pub and would doss down with the rough sleepers in Tottenham Court Road. He'd then get the first train in the morning back to whatever Godforsaken part of Essex he lived in to shower and shave and put a fresh set of clothes on.

Given the choice between living in Essex and sleeping rough in Tottenham Court Road I can't see why you are criticising the guy.
    I think....

    LOL.

I'm not criticising him TBH, I didn't really have strong feelings about his choice of bed mates. The bosses did however and canned him before long. This was back in the days when if you worked in a bank you were meant to uphold a certain standard of behaviour.

I remember my boss getting a call from the Staff (Bank) Accounts team to ask him why he was spending so much money in William Hill. His reply was that he could afford to lose more than she earned. He was a complete Richard though.

I'm the idiot, but you're swinging like a dazzled fish on the end of my rod

If you want to live in one of the most booming, culturally impressive cities with the best career opportunities you best get saving, if you want to buy a house there for the same price as a house in Stoke then you're even more deluded than I originally suspected.

Just pointing out the fact that you wouldn't have had to buy your first house 10 times the average salary. Please don't be an idiot.

Nobody has to buy at 10 times their salary, it's a choice, stop crying about it. If I had of bought my house alone it would of cost 7 times My salary..... Some people just get things done though (rather than crying)
