Just playing devils advocate, but perhaps the answer isn't concreting the entire country simply so we can breed like rats and destroy the earth with our voracious appetites for consumption.
Perhaps part of the problem is overpopulation?
If we carry on then there will be issues with water is some parts of the world and also meat (which is water intensive).
I can here the unsympathetic cries now "tough tittes.........become a vegetarian", but what about water, isn't a certain amount of it essential for life?
At that point people will have to start saying "tough titties........man up and manage without water.............when I were a lad..........."

Fortunately for the world for every defeatist like yourself there is another who will move hell and earth for themselves their families and their people

humanity is the earths and its critters best gift. We will even move our planet sometime before 500 million years to a more distant orbity to save it from our sun

ten billion humans are not an issue even 50 billion would be no issue
we don't consume we recycle everything directly or indirectly

what you see as a human plague is the earths custodian

Yes, only today I've had an enquiry from a FTB wanting to borrow 4 x her income, She cannot afford her ideal London location so is compromising on location just as our forefathers did by default.

I live some 30 miles from London, most people here commute, that's the sacrifice they made. This selfish naval gazing entitlement meme is toxic and very undignified.

Commuting is a wasteful use of limited resources and limited lifetimes.

the government should accept that cities form and jobs and people congregate and should have a housing policy that helps meet this need.

Inner london should be moved towards a density of 25,000 persons per sqkm which would take its 3.2mil population to 8.0mil

these 5 million people concentrated into inner london would be much better than putting the same five million people spead across outer London and the SE all trying to commute from one place to another

but its not likely to happen
