Does it get kept by the bank?
There was a thread about a poster who's Lloyds account was being closed and they were being refused accounts with other banks. What happens to their money if their bank is closing and cannot shift money to any other bank?
In cases of fraud or other crimes it will be kept in a suspense account, generally until all police or other agencies investigations have been completed.
Otherwise, from experience the banks send cheques - very few will allow these to be cashed in branch. On rare occasions where those ex-customers are issued cashed proper ID/AV checks will be completed.0 -
The OP hasn't stated whether his Barclays account(s) are in good standing. From his history it would appear this has not always been the case elsewhere.
Just been going through some old posts....and this one came up.
Barclays account ran well, no debt, rarely overdrawn (less than £10 and usually for a day never more than two or three days) I switched to Co-op, to whom I have made one complaint (about access to information telephone banking can or can not see, so pass to debit card department who's first words were, "why have you been passed to me, telephone banking can see just as much as i can, although if any of these are fraudulent then I can act on them")
Although the wording has been questioned, I believe they have several options which they can use to stop mail being sent to address, rather than change them . I have never had access to the accounts in question. Equally banks are not the only people I have had this problem with. I have had the same trouble with the previous power supplier. They openly admitted the "gone away" tag on the account fell off after 6 months.
Interestingly last week I was sent a cheque for £200 from Barclays, as yet again they sent post to the previous occupier. Six months after saying no further mail will be sent.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

There are only two banks who offer accounts that i know of for people that are bankrupt or very poor credit score, one is barclays... The other is Co-op.All views are solely my own and do not represent anybody else nor any companies. and if that is the case i think i would look to have an account with each of those two, and close everything else, keep working, save, and keep your head down.
and be very realistic in terms of what you expect service-wise.0
