Morning all !! It was soooo lovely to get up this morning as the sun is streaming in ... I'm sure it is freezing outside but through the windows it feels lovely
Ds asked what had happened when he got up ... when I asked what he meant he said "Well its tidy in here, how did that happen?" ... you'd think he'd never seen it tidy before ... or maybe he hasn't
Today we have a load of little jobs to do now everywheres open again ... I need to pay in my expenses cheque and then pay my tax bill, we need to post the boots that sold on ebay yesterday, call the dentist to make a new appointment, pay my last council tax instalment and pay my service charge for the flat
Once we have done that lot I'm hoping it will still be bright and we may go down the beach for a couple of hoursMortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Hi nenben,
been quietly watching your progress - you have inspired me. Have you joined the MFW board? you can pm bellsbells to put your target for the year on the first page and track your overpayments on there too - they are all really inspiring!!

Hi Zavarony ... I joined the pay off your mortgage in 3 years challenge on the mfw board when it started
My mortgage then was £121k  , it dropped to £60k when I moved house last summer  and since then I have managed to reduce it by another £4k and have got just over £800 to pay off again soon
, that should bring it down to just under £55k :j I'm not actually aiming to clear it in 3 years, well I'd love to but it ain't gonna happen  , I'm aiming to reduce it to £50k. The challenge ends in April 2010 but I'm hoping to meet my target by June 2009 which is when my fixed rate runs out  If I can keep up the overpayments as they are at the moment (and my new mortgage payments are similar when I remortgage next year), I should hopefully get it down to about £48k by the end of the challenge

I havent seen that board - but it sound all too difficult to me!! I would love to get rid of my mortgage, I have just remortgaged to 120k omg, cant believe that it has gone up from 55k when we bought the house (same one we are still in) but have got our money under control (i hope) and will aim to stick to the new plan!!!
Anyway - it was just a thought, I enjoy reading your posts benben, and thanks for the inspiration!!

Its the same as the 2008 mfw challenge, just we started a year earlier
Theres loads of discussion over there as to whether you should overpay on your mortgage or whether you'd be better paying into a pension / filling isa's / buying shares / searching for Elvis etc etc .... it works for me, it may make more sense to fill isa's but I wouldn't feel as motivated to do that; getting my mortgage down is something I'm passionate about and therefore I don't see it as a hardship, rather a challenge to be achieved asap
Why not have a look at some of the mortage overpayment calculators, once you've seen those I bet you will start finding ways to make overpayments on yours tooGood luck

We decided to go to a town nearby and visit one of those pottery shops where you can paint your own stuff then buy it ... well, I thought that would keep ds occupied for an hour or so   however, once inside I realised the prices; it was £3.50 for the paints and then you pay for the item you want to paint ... a plain side plate was £8   a flat plaque of a train was £15   even a tiddly egg cup was £7  so somehow I had to persuade ds he didn't want to paint after all, while caually making a hasty exit from the very empty shop with the owner staring at me as if I was mad
A quick trip to Woolies and a couple of quid later and ds is happily painting away at the table indoors instead
While we were out I thought I'd better get his feet measured and he has grown a whole size, so that was another £28 for new school shoes  I do cut back on all his other clothes and mainly only buy from the sales etc, but school shoes are the one thing that I do pay proper money for, I figure the amount of time he wears them for they are good value really. His trainers and casual shoes are cheapy ones, not proper fitted ones.
I also bought him a new lunchbox (£1.99), I went for a plain see through plastic box as he currently has a typical boys lunchbag but its a nightmare to keep clean :rolleyes:Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

I've just checked this months money and now because I bought ds school shoes I only have £11 left until payday on monday
Its not a major problem as I can move some money aross from another account but I hadn't realised it would take me that close to tunning out of money  I think as long as I don't spend more than £39 (the £11 I've got left and the £28 for the shoes) then I can budget for his shoes out of Aprils money
Just off to figure out Aprils money, back soon ....Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000
