Gingernutty wrote: »Hi guys.
I'm back from the concert and it was ....meh.
The musicians were brilliant, the singers were fabulous, the venue not too big.
However, I'd finished a night shift this (yesterday) morning, got 4 hours of sleep, am still dizzy from labyrinthitis, got standing tickets (at less than 5 feet tall not a good choice) and got stuck at the outer edge of the crowd near the bar.
Those loud and obnoxious drunk people who weren't standing in front of me were behind me being loud, obnoxious and drunk.
They took the shiny off what was a good concert.
I put my coat in the cloak room, then decided to buy a CD and got stuck with what to do with it.
Readers, I went to the toilet and I stuck it down the front of my roll on so I didn't have to have it in my hands.
I was wearing a vest. And a top. So it was effectively hidden under three layers.
This worked well until I went to Pizza Hut. This meant having to bend to sit down and eat.
I had to go to the toilet to remove my CD and put it in my coat.
Pizza Hut wasn't exactly heaving and yet the service was slow. The food not brilliant either.
The train home was full of rowdy drunks cackling like witches and teasing the police officer.
So yeah.
I got to see the top half of the world's most enthusiastic tambourine man, hear "The Greatest Love of All" as a jazz number and an amazing version of "Take Me to Church" but it was okay.
Not fabby. Not brilliant. Just meh.
Note to self : balcony seat next time.
Thanks for the links to the tunes - very impressed with the vocalist on Take MeTo The Church. Can't say i'd heard of them or her before.
Not so sure about the link to the roll on :rotfl:i now have an imageWhat came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?0 -
Been a busy week here, so much so, I feel like I have had barely a chance to catch my breath!
All the normal stuff in relation to having disabled children but also driving my parents around as they were visiting a neighbour in hospital after a fall and then the biggy, the thing which completely sapped all my energy....a uni interview for middle son.
The interview went well (he was offered a place there and then) but the day included over 6 hours on the road (not me driving, I can't drive for that long and stay alert...about an hour and a half is my absolute limit on quieter roads), getting lost in the university due to lack of signs (we had to use the accessible entrance due to my wheelchair) and a very very long and boring course introduction session in an overly warm room. So chuffed for middle son though, he handled himself very well despite his aspergers and nervousness, the instant offer has done wonders for his confidence.
Got another eek week this week too, another interview/audition on Wednesday and an applicant open day next Saturday, both are being done by train and both will be very long days, next Saturday especially!
Oh and it is half term, so have to keep them happy and entertained. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

WOOOOOOOOOO! Congratulate your son from all of us here on the thread - and take some for yourself ((((())))) - what a great achievement as a parent!
Sorry the concert experience wasn't brilliant, GN
I went to Primark to buy a vest to wear under a special piece of clothing which isn't quite warm enough, and ended up with what I suppose is a roll on. It's a very very stretchy vest that holds me in in all the right places, and covers my whole torso. I suppose it is actually a roll on (it can be challenging to get it off!) but it's very warm and cuddly somehow! And it isn't tight - another 5:2 triumph. (Hmmm, I think I put on a few lb in the last couple of weeks though due to not getting enough exercise. Now back on track, though, and still haven't missed a day.)Ex board guide. Single sue, your son must be chuffed to bits, that's great for him.
I am in need if fresh air so in an attempt to dislodge some of the thoughts circling round my brain, Gitdog and I are off on a bull terrier walk. (We are inclusive, other dogs welcome.) it will give him a chance to play with other dogs who don't mind being steamrollered with his enthusiastic welcomes. The downside is he then forgets he's meant to be gentle with other dogs. Couple of hours in the fresh air though can only be a good thing. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
He doesn't show much emotion to be honest but it has helped him feel more confident in his ability...there was no whooping or jumping around in joy from him (I on the other hand is a different story!)
He's been through a rough time the last couple of years with some bullying which has sapped his confidence a tad, from some so called friends. Apparently, buying cymbals etc from Ebay or secondhand is enough to warrant calling them Lidl cymbals and to be laughed at, as is hiding his equipment to try to get the old aspergic raging Josh back as they love watching the explosions. He didn't rise to the last one but it made him doubt his ability all the same.
He is a big lad (on a diet as we speak and has already lost over a stone in a month) but has become more of a gentle giant than the raging bull he was when he was younger....surprisingly, he has never been bullied over his size.
Just a little proud mum time, I apologise, but his Youtube channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/MADDRUM5 if anyone fancies taking a look.We made it! Ha ha! The people who are too stupid to realise that there are real bargains on Ebay if you know what you are buying are obviously the same ones who haven't found some of the really excellent food on sale in Lidl at bargain prices!
(OK, I admit there is also rubbish to be found in both places. But for the discriminating or knowledgeable shopper, both places are gold mines
)
For some reason my computer isn't giving me any sound this morning (I'll do a restart later) but the drumming LOOKs excellent!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

Ebay or Lidl?
Ebay - best purchase ever was a musical instrument last summer. Listed at £5000 start. I tried to contact the seller to say I would pay £4500, but 'contact seller' was blocked by Ebay no matter what I did. Gave up on it, and lo! it was relisted the following week for £4500. I went to the seaside to collect it, and it is stunning! Almost like a new £8000 instrument.
Lidl/Aldi - there are threads on here. My current crush is Turkish yoghurt from Lidl - 10% fat but totally worth it! (And costs peanuts. I think I just paid £1.49 for a kilo of the stuff.)Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Gingernutty there is a fab youtube video of hozier being surprised by a choir singing along to take me to church.
It's fantastic0 -
SingleSue - don't apologise for being proud of your son/sons! It is great to hear parents being proud & supportive - you have to be really supportive to have a keen drummer in the house.
He looks very rock'nroll with the hair etc, maybe he could even boost his dieting success by getting involved with even more physical drumming, I am thinking of the amazing Japanese drummers, Kodo I think? Taiko?
My sons were at times ridiculed for buying things "not from shops", but their friends changed their tune when they realised how much more sons could get for their pocket money.Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0
