    Good evening everyone!

I will start with today's positives...
I was up bright and early and took breakfast and lunch with me to work. Still not as much fruit and veg as I would like, but much better than yesterday.
I have had a letter from Santander stating the money that appeared in my account is from them as compensation for a complaint I made - so I am £70 up.

However...today has been a big spend day. DH picked up his car so that's £1000 payment made! (But this has come out of the refund from last car). He also put £20 fuel in it. We have also been very naughty and order a take away but I can honestly say it's all his fault!

Feeling brighter today, was so down in the dumps yesterday. Think living alone, working most of the day alone is not great at times, plus the debt cloud looming over your shoulder.
It's also down to that end of winter feeling - we start to lose faith that the sun will ever return

Good news today paid off 108.25 off cards. Forget which turtle suggested dividing debt into100 boxes and colouring them in. Well I am hooked 5 boxes coloured in paid off 297.25 so far this year.
Well done, I have done this before. Unfortunately this morning I made what I thought was a massive payment off two cc (more than will be going into my account for the whole month) only to find when I added it all up that the debt had still increased - need to sort that shuffle asap.

    Hugs to everyone needing them.

Another SFD today, was given a pound by friend to buy Grandson some sweets so may have popcorn and movie night with him. Made a rocket out of cardboard boxes yesterday, cost nothing and he sat in there all night with a big smile on his face. Who needs expensive toys.
Lovely - tents under the table are good as well if your table is big enough. I remember playing at being dogs when I was tiny - my partner in crime was a pensioner and the table was our kennel, we sat in there eating dog biscuits.

Suns out to cheer us turtles up x

Hey everyone, first time posting on this thread so far as research has been taking over. Had ups and downs after splitting up with bf but going ok and got lots to get on with :)

    • Random Rule for February 15 minutes a day - will spend this in meditation. Popular option for my turtles
    Other Rules
    • Focus on changes you need to make will try and print off my targets - I find the finances easy but not the exercise/physio/meditation/fruit and veg targets. Targets looking good
    • Healthy eating – up your fruit and veg. If you are already getting your 5 a day (if not why not?) go for 7. Will make you feel better (especially if free or ys) and may help ward off all those annoying bugs which come with the changing seasons. Will try, find this hard, will put more veg in meals.
    • Excercise 5 times a week, newbies and poorlies start with 10 minutes a day, get outdoors wherever possible. WTW and allotment.
Hugs to everyone who needs them, mothernerd, keep your chin up, you are doing really well with your recovery and inspire me when I need a kick up the bum with how strong you are being.

Fmess, with reference to your joint finances, I would definitely stand your ground for all the reasons you said, and don't be afraid to tell him those reasons. Stick to your principles on the debt coming first so you can start with a clean slate, even more so as he was an accomplice in the debt! I don't know if you read Mr Money Moustache's blog, but he would say you are in a debt emergency and nothing is more important than clearing that debt as quickly as possible for your own sanity, your finances, your future and for the amount that could go down the drain in interest payments the longer it takes. (Hope this doesn't sound harsh, I'm not lecturing you about debt, but assuring you that you are right in your stance, I practically shouted "No Way!" when you said he wanted to start the new split straight away.) I will look for the MMM post on debt emergency, although it's not for the faint-hearted; he dishes out a lot of tough love, liberally sprinkled with profanity :)
    Me too NO No No

Congrats to LondonGirl on the new job, hello to all the newbies and returning turtles and hugs to anyone who needs them, this is a great place where we can all battle on to our different targets together. x

    Hi guys

Quick check in as struggling with yet another cold right off the back of the last one. Didn't even manage dinner last night, just went to bed so the chorizo and butterbean soup was for todays lunch instead. Got leftover chicken and salad tonight.

Spend day but incredibly worthwhile. Mum started chemo yesterday and she is shaving her head to raise money for a local family whose son has cystic fibrosis as she is losing it anyway. She bought me a hoody she knew I would like and then refused to let me pay for it, so £16 donated to her fundraiser instead :) she is up to £91 this morning bless her
Hugs and best wishes for you and your mum

fmess doesn't it just make you wish you had never brought it up. The selfishness of our OH's never fails to astound me. Maybe you should write down a list of the joint things that accrued your debt and bill him equally on those too, as per your other bills. If he can't see the value in minimising interest and getting rid of the debt more quickly then personally I would not be putting any money in pots that may benefit him. I know that seems harsh but sometimes things really irritate me and men not listening/taking only what they want to hear on board really gets to me!! Obviously I know he is your OH and you love him but... on your behalf!! xx

mothernerd hope you are feeling a bit better today :) be gentle with yourself and have that heating on as much as you need it! xx

Thank you for all your good wishes.

Blubella congratulations on your Etsee shop and crafting.

cupcake queen truly inspirational and wishing you every success going forward

soa get off the naughty step, I bought chocolate and crisp yesterday but I can't get down to the naughty step.

    thriftylass more re-discovered treasures.

Fmess Think it should be a firm No to changing system until the debt is paid off. Bobarella's and cupcake queen's accounts resonated so much. I think I started out unequal with exOH (we started as friends and should have stayed that way). He was 10 years older, had been in a 'well-paid' (certainly for where we live) job for over 15 years but frequently ran out of money before the end of the month and could only cook bacon and eggs (his food cupboard contained a pack of spaghetti and three cardboard spice cartons - one was pickling spice) despite having 'left home' 10 years previously. I was unemployed but doing lots of voluntary work.

Our original agreement was that he would give me money to buy ingredients and I would cook us a meal. Then I helped out decorating his house. When we 'got together' I said I had to be in charge of the finances and when he put me on his bank account (we were going away for the weekend and he couldn't get to the bank and the cashier didn't want to give me the money) he had a £2000 overdraft so from being broke but straight (still paying the loan on my house even if it meant no food money) to having joint responsibility for his debt.

I was out of work less than six months (this was the early eighties and if you think it's bad now) but earned much less so somehow I was responsible for all housework, budgeting, cooking, shopping (tried to set up a rota so that he did some according to his shifts - when I had flu there wasn't even a tin of soup in the house as it was his week to shop), childcare, diy and decorating (his areas of expertise are cameras and hi-fi - anything else forget it) even when working full-time, even when he was made redundant and I was the only earner (part-time work and when I tried to get extra hours as a supermarket cashier the woman interviewing me interrogated me on my childcare arrangements - did report her afterwards but no chance of getting the job).

Anyway Fmess you carried him when he needed it, debt clearing is a priority for your long term future and unless he has real grown-up plans for extra spending money (as opposed to frittering it on beer and ps games) it's a firm No. Tell him mothernerd said so.

Shyspender ouch to spendy day. Wouldn't happen to me - I can't make it further than the bathroom without my glasses, put them on in the morning and take them off as I climb into bed at night.

Not feeling better today but have rationalised it and am spoiling myself. When I felt teary the other week, I later remembered something similar happening after my other op. I think the body goes through some sort of trauma, you don't remember the pain but the shock is there, even with something simple like a knife slipping or a bad fall and your emotions are close to the surface. Also a couple of bug type things - went for my walk and struggled all the time but was noticing my chest tightening, not really bothering me but it's there, so just a bit under par'

Put the heating on this morning, had a proper wash once the bathroom was comfortable, lots of moisturiser and a squirt of perfume, put good clothes on. have tackled the washing, washing-up and carrot mountains and tried to get out near some trees this afternoon. Donated to the food bank and the charity bin and put chumbawumba on earlier (sat in bed with the tray table over me so any 'dancing' was confined to upper body movements and twitchy feet. I have had a very cautious 'dance' since to a more sedate tune. Don't think I can get to Tessimo's for the bargains (have a points voucher) but may nip to little Arseda.

Energy company are still holding onto my money. They have credited me with £155 (actually should be £249) then decide in their infinite wisdom :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:that I have used £165 worth of gas this month so they still think I should pay them £61. they don't want any money for the other house (credited me with £150 last month) but have decided I have used £88 of gas there (in an empty house where the CH has been on for 2 viewings and the second couple turned up 5minutes after I had put the heating on). I have already started the changeover process here but just counting the days till I send it off to the ombudsman -so cross.

Today I am grateful that I have enough food to donate to those less fortunate, for cheerful music and a visit from DS1 (even if he made me feel old and unfit for the modern world - jobs going at his place).

    Evening!

Today ended up being a spend day. Didn't get my act together and ended up buying lunch GRRRR!

Totally get what you mean about living alone Calling14... Since my flat mate moved out I find I have more pondering time and caught myself a few times dwelling on things that haven't even happened, and focusing on what I haven't got - instead of all the good things I have... I like the 'things I am grateful for' entries that people do - because it reminds me that even the simple things in life can be what make us feel rich.

Have a good night and catch you tomorrow x

Hope DD is not too poorly apple muncher??

Thanks for the thoughts for mum chaps and chapettes (chapatis according to my spellcheck :rotfl:) - she is a pretty special old bird ;)

No other spends today and none on the horizon. Plenty of bread and milk to survive a couple more days.

Am off to make a hot lemon and honey or three. Not feeling the love for this weather and the plethora of bugs it brings with it. Big salad and leftover roast chicken for dinner :) Thanks thriftylass for your recommendations on the ways to get my 5 a day. I've never counted the tomatoes/onions I add into EVERYTHING :rotfl:

Today I am grateful for: Paperwork arriving from the Yorks Bank bringing with it the promise of an easily earned £150, work passing quickly and praise from the boss, Jelly finally seeming to be a bit better, honey, lemon, coffee and chocolate :)

abundant I belatedly saw your post... I sent this to my lovely friend today. It fits a lot of us eh ;)

Glad to hear Jelly is mending, Lilt. Dd's got a stinker of a cold and is snotty - the green stuff - and extremely pale with circles round her eyes. Add in the sore throat and cough and it's a well-rounded bug! On the plus side, it does mean she is asleep earlier - twas 8.50pm today!!

Off to make a honey and lemon too - dd is generous with her germs...
