Who is stupid? Who are these intelligent ones who are paying for these people's stupidity? And how?
  • In this context, the stupid people surely are the ones charged bank charges again and again for going overdrawn?

The intelligent ones, are the ones who could possibly be charged a monthly fee for banking, where before it was free because they managed their account correctly, because you cant charge the stupid people anymore??

Ah ok, I have made my views on such ignorance already here.

  • As you say "A bank could simply refuse the transaction if there are not enough funds,"

Well I say, you could simply choose to have a few hundred pound float in your account.

We all know times are hard, but the day I couldnt afford to do this, would be the day I looked for a weekend job and or cut back on nonessentials.

Good idea to change the subject, I probably too would if I were you. Your original point is still nonsense.
  • No the subject is on running your account in an intelligent way to avoid bank charges, and people who can do this being penalised because it has become "unfair" to charge people who cant. Sorry you find that nonsensical.
  • I think most posters have gone off the point of it all ..... I believed that the whole point is NOT the fact that people overdrawn are charged, but the actual AMOUNT they are charged.

I just came here to make that exact point. If my bank ever took £80 off me for going overdrawn I would make sure I was never overdrawn again. (I never have been in my 18 year working life)

People who go overdrawn again and again, are surely agreeing with the charges.

I made the point at work, that you may order a pizza from pizza hut, it may be £10. It make only cost to 50p to make. You cant argue after years and years of buying pizza that the charges were unfair and you want them back.

Of course in todays culture people have to be protected from their own stupidity and the intelligent people are forced to pay for them.

Bet your workmates where rivetted with this one!

Hopefully there was no one listening who's been hammered by the bansks.

Yes there were a couple of dumbos, but more who had never paid bank charges who didnt want to start having to pay after free accounts ended.

Either banks will charge sensible account holders, or they will remove the overdraft facility to those poor souls who cant grasp the concept. I dont see how either option is one to be happy about.

i do not buy non essentials, but i do get paid a pittance for working a 40 hour week.

i would in fact get more if i quit my job and went onto benefits, but i prefer to work for pennies.

i am a graduate, and it unfortunately states in my contract that i am not alloeed to have a second job, or i would. i do not feel that i am a stupid person, and have in the past been charged by my bank after falling ill in my early 20's (mumps and complications). i do not feel they were fair, nd when i called about them at the point i was still contagious was told that if i went in branch they would be able to remove the, obviously being catching i couldn't do that...

i would love to have the luxury of a few hundred pound float but th=ta really isn't an option in my current job.
