I've just ordered 6 salt scrub sachets with free gift for in store collection.
I did this and was stupid - when I went to collect it I gave the SA a copy of my email which showed that I had only spent £7. When she brought my orders (3) to the till she rang head office and reported me to head office for not spending £10 and she thought I was suspicious. She refused to let me collect my orders and the assistant manager backed her up even though I had already paid online for my goods. They told me they would have to refund me. I said well go ahead I paid with paypal. They didn't know what to do so had to refund cash. If I'd had more time I would have stood my ground and demanded they refund paypal. I later phoned Customer Services and made a complaint and was given £10 worth of points. Customer Services said there was nothing wrong with my order and it isn't my fault that Boots.com add a free gift when I haven't spent enough. I made the same online order to another store and collected it no problem. They didn't even open the box to check what was in it even though the other store had told me they have to open all the online orders. It is clear that my local store know I like a bargain and target me everytime I go in. I have a friend who buys glitchy things like me and they never question her - a clear case of discrimination!
The moral of the story is I won't be using the store where they have me marked down as a suspicious character. Every single transaction I do they try to be awkward and tell me I cannot do it even when there is nothing wrong with it. They are obviously jealous that I manage to enjoy the glitches and they cannot.
So folks - be careful what paperwork you show the SA as they may have been told to scrutinise everything!!0 -
I done 2 orders yesterday and both have arrived in store. going tomorrow to pick up. Thanks to OP. My orders get checked but never had grief from staff
if you missed out on line with this offer then try with max factor. They are on offer 3 for 2 and are giving away a £31 gift set free with 3 items...even if one is free. Cheapest item 3.99. so if you buy 3 nail polishes at 7.98 you'll get £43 of max factor for 7.98

That's terrible you were treated like that.i don't understand how they are so concerned with your order that you are collecting.I usually just give them my order number they don't care what I am collecting0 -
The staff in my local store have it in for me - every transaction I do they try and pick fault with and hate having to serve me. They really hate it if I buy 3 clearance items and there is also a 342 on the same range (eg Olay or Nivea) because it means one of the clearance items will be free. They'd love to stop it but the till lets it go through - I see them trying to be polite through gritted teeth. Most of them aren't even polite actually.
When they confiscated my goods I have no idea whether they were told not to let me have them - they may have just been making it up.
It winds them up having to serve me...:)0 -

I don't think it is just you catswiththumbs - the young man that took my email yesterday double checked it too. I had spent £10 on two full size bottles. With so many companies facing financial difficulties perhaps the staff have been told to check now?£216 saved 24 October 20140

I was under the impression that once goods have been paid for, the "contract" has been made and they become your property. Only saying this as once before I bought a perfume gift set in Wilko that went through the till at 1p. It wasn't until I had paid, (had other bits and pieces) that the assistant realised and said that I had to give it back as it shouldn't have been sold at that price.
After a bit of debate the manager was called and he agreed that it was too late on their part to ask for the goods back, as this can only happen before payment is made.
Does anyone know if different rules apply to online / distance selling?

With all the profits Boots make by overcharging on most of their stuff compared to other retailers I don't think they'll be bothered about a few people "taking advantage". Especially when the boss sits pretty in Monaco not paying UK tax allegedly according to recent news articles.
However, the battle goes on.......0
