Having dealt with my late fathers probate, I know he had Sentinel Gold since 2005 until his death in 2011. Can I claim on behalf of his estate in the hope that his widow/ my mother may get the refund?

I'm in a very similar situation. My late mother who passed away late 2011 had Sentinel Gold through Barclays. However, I don't now have any paperwork to do with this. I'm an executor of her estate. Does anyone know if I can claim on behalf of her estate?
  • Having read your information on the pre 2005 Sentinel card Protection [ I have already received the Affinion Letter for claims from 2005 to present day ] I took your advice and the template letter and wrote to Barclay Card back at the beginning of March his year [2015] and claimed right back to Sept 1987. I had a very quick response stating they would investigate my claim and complete the inquiry by 12th April 2015.

Sentinel (Barclaycard) rang me on 10 April 2015 and agreed that I had been miss sold the card protection and that a letter with their finding and offer of compensation would be forwarded to me as we spoke. The letter duly arrived on 13 April 2015 and having read through I found that they had offered me a total of £309-45p minus tax of 20% of taxable compensation giving me a net refund of £246-02p . An excellent result for writing one letter . Thank-you to Money Saving Expert . I must point out that Barclaycard were very efficient and informative during this process. Robert L
  • Hi, I first bought Sentinel card defence/protection about 12 years ago when I first got an American Express card and renewed it yearly. I noticed that AMEX are not one of the companies mentioned in the redress scheme. Anyone know if there are nonetheless grounds to make a claim for a refund?

I received my voting form today will be interested to see how this progresses!
  • I also phoned after seeing the above by AgentWD40. I was advised they would write to me, and that not only would I have to send a copy of the death certificate but also a copy of the Grant of Probate. I can understand having to send the copy death certificate but this seems to be a little excessive in view of them wanting the Grant of Probate as well. Will wait to see what the letter says.

Thank you. I'm a bit confused. In the information booklet that came with the letter addressed to my late husband it says:

1:6 Not all holders of the Card Security Products mentioned above will be scheme creditors as certain categories of purchases and/or renewals are being excluded from the scope of the scheme. The key categories that are excluded are as follows:
    1:6:1 product holders who, according to the records of AI as at 22 December 2014 are deceased;

I took that to mean I wouldn't get anything back, but maybe because I was member 2 on the Barclaycard and my cards were covered too (even though the Sentinel was in my husband's name) it's different. I'll ring the 0800 number at the top of the voting form.
  • when i first got the letter i didnt know what ai scheme was, got second letter today and now seeing you say sentenial i remember, although i cannot remember my sentenial details or how much i paid. will this cause issue with me claiming? it was a long time ago

AI Scheme have all the necessary details - there won't be any issue with you not remembering. :)

Following the guides on here (MSE) I downloaded the template claim form to Barclays, through who I'd previously bought Sentinal Gold cover

6-Apr-15 Submitted claim (covers the period Jan-02 through 14-Jan-05)
17-Apr-15 I received an acknowledgement and refund advisory letter
22-Apr-15 the money was received into my nominated account 16 Days

Could they have processed and paid any faster? (factor in Mr Postman here)
Looks like they are bending over backwards to accommodate and settle any claims.

were you sold by Barclays Bank or Barclaycard (does it make any difference ?)
I thought (per my AI paperwork) that we had to wait until the scheme was voted for and proceeded with... yet you have managed to claim now. We all should then ?
