What was your life like at 23?

At 23 I had just given up on teaching due to a chronic health problem and got the job I'm in now. I was living with my now in-laws to save for a deposit. I spent quite a while in hospital that year! Probably not the best year of my life but not the worst either.
7 years on I'm married and own a lovely house. My health is much better controlled. I still love the job I started back then and I'm so pleased I quit teaching. Definitely happier too.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%
Overpayments - £48829.37 :j:j:j
Mortgage paid off Jan 20200 -
Lips and Lashes - just wanted to say, it may seem tough now but you are still so young and have plenty of time to get out of debt, move out etc. There is no rush! I hope your condition improves, good luck.0

At 23, I had just left college and had a very dull job working at an insurance brokers. I was also about to move in with my girlfriend and her daughter and looked forward to starting a family. Everything seemed to be going great at the time, although within a year I'd lost my job, had a nervous breakdown, moved back in with my parents and my partner had started seeing another man.
Now 2 and half years later I'm slowly but surely trying to rebuild my life.0 -
At 23 I had:
Got engaged
Just bought our first house together
Recently qualified as an Accountant
Got promoted into a management position
Now at 39 I am:
Happily married (to the same man I was engaged to!)
A mum to two amazing kids
Living in our forever home (we will be mortgage free next year)
Working in an Accountancy job I enjoy four days a week
Looking back my life was pretty much sorted at 23. I think this was more luck than judgement though!0 -
I got engaged on my 23rd birthday! (To my boyfriend who I had been together since my 18th birthday).
I had finished my language and history degree in the summer when I was 22, and was studying to become a French teacher.
I didn't own my own home, but my fiance did as he has bought one when he was younger, before we were together.
All in all a pretty decent time for me.
Fast forward to now...I'm 27. Head of languages in a school I love. Married to the fiance for 18 months and hopefully just about to buy our dream house together. Very busy, working a lot of hours, but very grateful for everything I have!"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -

I'm 23 right now! It's actually my favourite number and my favourite song is about being 23 (what's my age again for anyone who's interested).
It's been a difficult year. My boyfriend of 3 years left me a couple of months before I turned 23. It was a bad break up with neither of us behaving very well. I was depressed and felt abandoned.
But then I decided to start living life on my terms. For two long I have turned down things I might have wanted to do because I had a boyfriend. Friend wanted me to do something pricey - no because we needed to save money for our future (not that he ever did!). Girls holiday - no because I'd be away from him for a week and he wouldn't like it. Au pair abroad for a summer - no I'd miss him too much. So I went to my first festival and loved it and have several other gigs booked or the coming year. I've got a holiday booked with some girls from uni. And after several set backs I will be completing my degree this year.
Overall I am enjoying 23, trying to live in the moment and not put too much pressure on myself about what I should be doing at this point in my life0 -
Awful, I was very ill. It's better now a few years on (I'm 27)

A lot of people here have achieved quite a lot at that age, i'm very envious, and O.P you're doing well, so just keep on your path it seems like you can definitely achieve what you want to, if you haven't already *thumbs up* and think of it this way, you can only go up from here.
Good luck!0
