The JD Williams Group allows this.
Just allow in general or in case of fraud?

So, I apply for a card/account and they decline me.
I ask you to apply and buy something for me.
Then we call together, I 'confess' and get the account 'transfered' to my name.

Is it not far too simple?

It might be worth you asking them if it would be possible to transfer the debt into a different name if they admitted the fraud. Its not likely to happen unless you ask the question.

Would this then not involve the police at all? I could try :)

Yes in the case of fraud if the fraudster admits the fraud they will transfer to account into their name and remove the entry from the victims credit file. They will send them a form to sign to agree for the change to happen.

In the case of the JD Williams Group which also have various Catalogues.

Amanda have you actually called the companies in question and explained what happened and what they would require you to do in order to transfer the debt in your sister's name? If not, you should do this now as we are all just speculating whether you can or not.

If they say the only way to remove it is if you report it to the police as ID fraud, would you do this? Or is this not an option for you? If not, then good luck with obtaining a mortgage with newly defaulted accounts on your files and enjoy the next 6 years living with the daily reminder of it with your sister's purchases.

Amanda, I'm curious why you're the one trying to sort this out. Tell your sister to get it sorted out - she created the mess, tell her to do whatever she has to do to get the debts out of your name and to get all references to it removed from your credit records.

Perhaps she could contact these companies and tells them she committed fraud by pretending to be you and she now needs them to tell her what she needs to do to put the matter (and your credit file) right.

It would be a great act of sisterly kindness to give her 4 months to resolve it and get your CRA cleaned up before you contact the companies and police to report it to them as fraud.

I am not sure that you comprehend that YOU will not be able to get a mortgage/credit card/phone contract/car finance for another 6 years unless it is sorted.

No I haven't explained it to them yet, I'll call again tomorrow. It's not really an option for me, I know it sounds stupid because she clearly didn't think about me but, no. I'll get back to you tomorrow anyway after ringing them.

Well we're not that close to be honest, I doubt she would bother taking the time to call these people for me. Probably just use the excuse she doesn't like being on the phone :wall: Her mind set is exactly that; it'll be written off in 6 years why bother paying it. I'd love to see her try and get a mortgage but nevermind..

What do your parents have to say about this?

Or did they not suspect anything when all the furniture and TV were being delivered in your name whilst you were at Uni elsewhere?

Does your sister work? Would she agree to a payment plan of a nominal monthly amount to you?

Have you obtained a copy of your credit report from all 3 agencies to see the extent of damage and to see if there are any other agreements she may have taken out without your knowledge?

If you're not going to the police and assuming the companies say you can't transfer the debt, what is your plan? To suck up and pay the debt and save for the next 6 years for a bigger deposit until you can get a mortgage?

My sister is 43 and still lives at home. She works, but my Mother treats her like a child and does virtually everything for her. I think it's a relationship they both enjoy.

My sister ended up with a Littlewoods account in my Mother's name. Well, they treated it as my sister's account and she made payments, but it was my Mother's account of course.

My Mother told me this story after the account had been active for a few years. She asked if it was possible to change it in to my sister's name. I told her they'd have to close the account and open a new one in my sister's name.

They didn't want to do this, so I offered to write a letter explaining the situation for them to send to Littlewoods. They sent the letter and, to my huge surprise, received a reply saying the account details had been changed.

    The account is still active.

This was probably more than six years ago and no payments had been missed on the account.
