Off on our adventure....Jan 2015

Options
Well I thought maybe I should start a diary so as not to fill the other threads with waffle....I thought I had started one the other day, but I just can't find it now, so maybe I didn't actually post it....LOL

Anyway, after our LBM just over a week ago, we are now just waiting to send all details to SC and hope to do that this week as soon as we have our new joint account details...didn't want to do it before as don't want them contacting our old bank. Soon as we get the account number I will set up all our new DD's and contact Lloyds to tell them I want to downgrade our Platinum account to a Classic.

Letters are all ready to send with the £1 token payment, which I will do this week as a few of the CC's are due at beginning of month. Hopefully the DMP will start in March.

I have registered us both with Noddle, as advised on another thread and am surprised that we actually have a credit rating of 3/5....expected it to be lower!

So what did we do this weekend? Well yesterday we decided to go for a carvery as we may not get too many treats in the future. I get the odd few hours overtime some months, so that was what we used to go out. 2 carveries ( I had the veggie option so was cheaper) and 2 drinks for under £16, so don't think that was too bad.

Then today I signed up for a few more survey sites, but have noticed with a lot of them they keep saying I am not eligible etc.....probably because I am too truthful and have no kids, no pets and not a lot of interests etc....maybe I should tell a few porkies to get more surveys. Then we went for a walk in the sunshine to see if the Co-op had any offers just before they closed....they didn't but at least we got a nice walk.

Now watching TV, cuddled under a blanket to save on the gas and just about to have another cup of tea. Lets see what this week brings.....

    Hi Ploppy :)

Great to see you've started a diary - I've subscribed and will closely follow your journey.

We have printed off the SC paperwork and aim to fill it all in this week. I spent today phoning life insurance, car insurance, house insurance and changing direct debit details. We set up two individual new bank accounts and was fairly instant (all done online). Our plan is to use one for all the bills and SC payments and just put money we can use for us in the other each month. That's the plan, let's see how well it works.

I managed to organise TV licence DD online, but changing the DD for the monthly car tax has been a nightmare - still not sorted :(

Anyway - good luck to you :)

Yes, we managed to set up personal accounts online, but we wanted a joint account for the bills, just the way we have always done it. It's all been confirmed and just waiting for them to actually send us the account number and debit card, they say it should be early this week. Luckily our car tax is actually due in March so as yet, we haven't set up DD's for that as still been paying yearly, will have to look into the monthly option.

You know when you just have one of those days and feel like you are going round and round and getting nowhere??? I have been like that today. Think maybe we are in a bit of a muddle with trying to set up the new bank account....which Natwest now tell me will be 48 hours before they can provide us with an account number......just a few days before a lot of DD's and CC payments are due! So I probably can't get the DD's changed in time for this month. I would imagine they need more than a few days notice to set them up....??? Anybody had any experience of this?? So we have letters ready to go to the CC's and Banks etc, but can't send the ones to Lloyds yet as we bank with them so don't want them to know until after I am confident we have moved the DD's. So if I just make a £1 token payment, I am hoping that when they receive the letter, which will be after the payment was due...they will still be ok about it. Just seems a bit confusing and daunting at the moment.
Think a lot of my problems are due to the fact that hubby, although he wants to do the DMP etc, he is not actually doing anything about it apart from signing forms that I put in front of him and he hasn't actually got a clue how much time this is all taking for me to work everything out and write letters, find addresses, set up DD's etc and I just feel like I can't switch off at the moment. Even the simplest little thing seems to take soooooooo long.

Anyway, I am now going to finish the rest of the letters ready to go, make some £1 payments and get the dinner on.....not even got a clue what we are having today as I was supposed to go food shopping after work, but just couldn't be bothered!

Sorry for the moaning diary entry, I promise I will be better tomorrow!

  • Hope you can rustle up something for dinner, sometimes these turn out to be the best ones.
Good luck with your bank no advice we used nationwide for ours and got account details the same day.
My dh is the same but tbh I prefer it that way. I am a bit controlling now when it comes to our finances but it works for us.

Yeah I must admit I like to be in control of finances, but I just wish I could get a bit of help from him....he just seems to think it will all magically sort itself out....even though the debts are evenly split between us...LOL

OMG Ploppy - you really are living my life :rotfl: I've contacted all our creditors EXCEPT our original bank account (who we have overdraft and 2 loans with) and I've completed all the StepChange paperwork but don't want to send it off until I am sure a) all the DDs are safely moved, and b) our salaries are paid into the new accounts. This is just in case I have to get our salaries are paid into this account and I want to get them out.

Just like your DH, my DH is just signing what I put in front of him and although he is onboard with the idea of the DMP he is not doing anything to help sort it out other than moaning that he might get phone calls from creditors whilst at work and what does he do then.

Keeping going Ploppy - we will get there

Think we are twins separated at birth...LOL

Are you finding you have so much stuff and paper now that you don't know what you have done and what you haven't done.?? LOL ...I have bought a large diary and am writing every thing in that.

I don't have much paper - all our creditor account information is online and there's only the StepChange paperwork printed out.

The bank statements showing our salaries going in are screenshots (hope that's acceptable) because we don't get paper statements. We can email those to StepChange.

So no....not a lot of paperwork but I do have a spreadsheet to track what I have done so far and what's to be done :rotfl:
