cw18 if the microwave is under 2 years old it should be covered by warranty in any case
Back - to say a huuuuge thank you for this :)

Went back to check Amaz0n (where I bought it from), and there was no mention of warranty period on the page.

So I went to the manufacturers site and did a search for warranty info. It read as if there is a general 1 year parts and labour warranty, and then the magnatron (the expensive microwave part) has a parts only warranty for a further 2 years. That means there's more chance I'll be able to afford a repair, as that's the part that generally means it's more cost effective to buy a new appliance - and it blew as DS1 went to use it as a microwave, which leads OH to think it's the most likely thing to have given!

Phoned the manufacturer this morning to confirm this is the case (which it is), and I was also told that I can ask an approved repairer to put in a claim through a 'cost assist programme' if he believes it's a manufacturing problem even if it's something else. No guarantee they'll refund anything towards it but certainly worth trying :)

So I've left a message on the answer machine of the closest approved repairer, and am now waiting on hearing back from them......

Not an NSD for me today, as it's D/Debit day in lieu of yesterday (when they didn't go due to it being a weekend).

warranty was only 12 months. I've never known longer (unless bought from A!di) without paying for an extended warranty.

    Q. I've heard that under European Union (EU) law I'm allowed a two year minimum guarantee on goods. Is that correct?
    A. EU Directive 1999/44/EC states that all European Union member states must allow consumers to make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods under their consumer rights for a minimum of two years. English law already allows you to make a claim for up to six years from the date you bought the goods and for up to five years in Scotland. Therefore if you buy any goods from any other EU member state, you can assume that you can make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods for at least two years after. See the 'Buying goods - your rights' leaflet for more information.
