you said that you have not paid a TV licence for 18 years. (I think that is what you said)

Do you not have a TV or have some sort of exemption, e.g you have proved to the authorities that you never use it to receive signals.

No I usually just give them two words and shut the door when they visit and they can't do a thing about it because you aren't obliged by the law to speak to them or to let them into your house. The empathise is on them to prove you are watching live TV transmissions and this is something they can't really do unless your daft enough to let in the house and speak to them. Unfortunately alot of people don't realise this and think they have powers to do whatever they like which is false this is why it’s mostly single parents, low income families & pensioners (under 75) putting food first that get caught L

If you own a house too you can remove their implied right to access so by law if they step foot on your property you can have them arrested
  • I AM ABSOLUTELY SICK OF TV ALTOGETHER - IT WAS ALL SO RUBBISH I THREW OUT MY TV, AND GLADLY TOLD THE TV LICENSING PEOPLE I WASN'T IN NEED OF A LICENCE ANYMORE.

However - did they believe me? I have had several rather threatening red letters through my door - all rather made out to look rather heavy like legal summons. One practically said that 'many people say they don't have TV, but we find they are usually wrong'. I wrote to them twice telling them I had no TV, and invited them to come confirm any time they liked. They have sent two inspectors around while I was at work, each time leaving a threatening card behind saying they will be back, at any time without warning. I am considering legal action for harassment.

I DO NOT HAVE A TV!!!

Tell me - if they have such wonderful technology to detect TVs, why is it they don't realise I don't have one? Well it is my belief that is a myth. TVs come in all manner of different technologies now, and the transmissions also, so how do the TV detector devices work? Try find that one out. You might find the article on TV licensing site that says it is such a secret even the engineers that use them don't know. Hahaha, what is this country coming to????

Anyone else had these experiences? Let's club together! Why do these people have such rights? It's ridiculous!

The letters will start off as standard type ones and overtime get more threatening then you get the OUR ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WILL BE PAYING YOU A VISIT LOL They'll also from time to time send out recorded delivery letters so I suggest you ask the postman who its from before signing for anything. My postman knows the score with me so tends to chuck them for me :) but after that they start from the begining and it goes round in that vicious circle

I'm not the one having a paddy because some nasty people are threatening my TV subsidies.

Please tell everyone here do you always act childish like this when people say nasty things about your employer ?
  • I registered with this site, which I have been viewing for over a year,
specifically so that I could participate in this thread.

The BBC does not act in the public, or general, interest. It acts on
    behalf of narrow sectional interests.

Its staff are drawn from the self-appointed 'elite' and its programming
is intended to give us the television that they think we should want.

The contempt of the programme makers for the viewers is clear.

The salaries of many of the people who 'work' at BBC are sickening.

That the people of New Zealand have managed to destroy their
compulsory licence scam by a campaign of protest whereas we here
cannot raise a squeak shows how dissipated and defeatist we have
    become.

I say smash the licence fee and let BBC stars and moguls find
another way to finance their rent boys and cocaine.

    Hi there defiant.
Just a quick question if I could.
The " implied right to access " point you raised, how exactly can i remove
it, and do i have to officially inform them that i have done so. If all i have to do is verbally inform the license enforcement Taliban officer then i shall certainly do so, although like you say, it will probably only take me 2 words !

As others have said, the tv licence is just another tax. Deal with it.

Not even sure why Defiant is moaning so much since she or he doesn't even have to pay anything apparently.

Having said that, if refunds are available for things I don't use I reckon I'll be minted after claiming back for GP's wages, social security, nuclear weapons, the Queen and MP's expenses. In fact I live on top of a hill, so maybe I should get a refund for the cost of those flood defences too...

    Where does it end?

So I'm class as a criminal and why because I don't agree with paying for your TV

Right a letter (recorded) pointing out you are removing their implied right to access and its that simple really. If they try anything on just point out that its been discussed in parliament and they have agreed you don't have to tell them anything else. If they do set foot on your property after that call the police and show them the proof of the recorded delivery ;)

You could also make a citizens arrest if you felt upto it because this is perfectly legal and if they refuse to listen you have them bang to rights
