Good afternoon Elite. Just popping on with a question...not shopping related
I started home educating dd2 just before Christmas and we've been doing really well...that was until this question on reverse percentages:
There are 6000 people at an ice hockey match.
The announcer says this is exactly 40% more people that the previous match.
Explain why the announcer is incorrect.
We've worked out the percentages and get that there would have bee 4286 people at the previous match. I don't get why the announcer is wrong! Any Elite maths geniuses out there?
Possibly because there would have had to have been 4285.7143 people at the previous match for there to be exactly 40% more people at the current match, and people don't come in fractions??Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

I was actually thinking today as I popped round asda they all seemed at ease the muggles
Not one of them re positioning items in their trolley
None of them seemed to be counting
Never saw one trolley stacked high with 1 particular item
No one peeling the outer leaf off a sprout for their gerbil
No one on their knees trying to reach to the back of the shelf or standing on the bottom shelf to kindly restock for Asda
No checking phones, scanning barcodes in fact it looked like a leisurely stroll just throwing random items in with no concern for size/price/old new packaging nothing
Not even a flump to be seen
I asked my oh if he missed how calm muggle shopping used to be, we used to wander around aimlessly throwing "bargains" in the trolley then be gobsmacked at how high the end bill was. He said, yes, in a way but he loves that the shopping bill has quartered over the past few months and we are a bit less stressed over making the budget stretch :T0 -

Still not sure exactly how some trigger items show on msm, but is this a possibility in the 3 for £9 or is it likely to appear because it actually shows in the offer?0 -

I know its still not a whole numberJelly_Biactol wrote: »...or what if the 4286th person was involved in a horrific hotdog stand accident and had his arm severed and so became 7/10th of who he/she was?:Dspringdreams wrote: »Possibly because there would have had to have been 4285.7143 people at the previous match for there to be exactly 40% more people at the current match, and people don't come in fractions??
